Which is less silly

We’re trying for a girl and have many family members names we want to honour. I’m not pregnant yet 🤞😂 but I’m curious as to what the public would think of my potential daughter. DS is called Philip and we are a French bilingual family

Marie Christine is beautiful

Genuinelyenquiring · 23/02/2024 18:34

How do you try for a girl?

FayCarew · 23/02/2024 18:43

@Genuinelyenquiring , you eat certain foods and avoid others, and TTC at certain times of the cycle only.
It will almost certainly be another boy.

BigFluffyHoodie · 23/02/2024 18:44

Not Paula.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/02/2024 19:34

With the greatest respect Op when TTC it has to be because you want a baby rather than a "girl" or boy. How would you feel if it was a boy. Would it be so bad to have a boy.
I'd say Marie Christine is the most or classic. Jacqueline is very dated and not in a cool way and Paulette is very unfriendly and harsh sounding.

celestebellman · 23/02/2024 19:37

Surely you are trying for a baby?
I think Jacqueline/ Jackie might be having a bit of a hipster moment. Jacqueline is pretty, especially with a French accent, not keen on Jackie though, to which it would inevitably be shortened.
Marie Christine and Paulette both sound quite dated. I think Paula is actually quite nice though.

@FayCarew why another boy?

Choosing the "less silly" option is a ridiculous approach to naming your child.

I’m trying to be funny and light hearted in my wording. Don’t be like that 😂

If I have a boy, it’s would be Pascal almost 100%, we’re ready for another child, doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or girl. Relax lol

This is what I was going to say.

Choose a name you like.

As you will have found with Phillip, the pronunciation will likely be different in English and in French, but they are all nice enough.

I rather like Jacqueline.
I'm not really a fan of double barrelled names, but Marie Christine does sound very French to me, which I rather like for a dual heritage family. It 'sounds' French but isn't a name that English people would struggle with in any way.

FayCarew · 23/02/2024 20:33

@Genuinelyenquiring , because the people I know who tried (wanted one of each) ended up with two or more of the same.
Only anecdotal evidence, obviously.

FayCarew · 23/02/2024 20:37

Wouldn't a girl Pascal be Pascale? Many French names just have an added e to change it from Michel to Michele, Paul to Paule, Gilbert to Gilberte, Louis to Louise etc

I know a Paule and she hates it.

Yes! Lol I know a frederique and English people are always like ‘your name is frederic?’ Or dominique. Not a fan of pascale though probably because it was the name of an anthropomorphic beetle from a book we had as a child lol

Since we already have a boy, we would like a girl. Most people think it but don’t say it. 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't be so sure. On MN, it seems to be more in favour of two DDs. Smile

ginasevern · 23/02/2024 21:42

I like Paulette. It is unusual and French and very pretty.

NewName24 · 23/02/2024 21:52

On what evidence are you basing that declaration ? Confused

FayCarew · 23/02/2024 22:12

@NewName24 . because if you are expecting a second child, some idiots will say 'Are you hoping for a girl (or boy, whichever is the opposite sex of DC1)?'
When the baby has arrived this changes to 'Are you disappointed to not have one of each?' or 'Are you going to keep trying until you get a girl?' etc

Paulette is a bit like epaulette.

Bluegetaniums · 23/02/2024 22:17

I think it's understandable that parents would like the opportunity to parent both sexes, so I do believe that many parents will hope for a girl if they already have a boy (or vice versa).

Bluegetaniums · 23/02/2024 22:23

FayCarew · 23/02/2024 20:33

It's a 50% so half of the parents will be 'successful' in having one of each. It's basically luck. But you can still have a preference.

FayCarew · 23/02/2024 22:29

@Bluegetaniums , statistically you are slightly more likely to have a boy.
I think that the desperation of parents to produce the ideal sex will zap all the sperm that would produce a baby of that sex. Smile

Annymania · 23/02/2024 22:55

Thanks to the people who understand what I was saying about having a girl. Nice to see some people get it 👍

OP posts:
FayCarew · 23/02/2024 23:19

@Annymania , there are lots of threads on MN about gender disappointment.
I 'get' that you might want one of each, e.g. you'd be female but the other 3 in your little family would be male so you'd be outnumbered, but things don't always work like that.
