and I'm getting a bit fed up hearing how terribly common it it!

Am fully aware its climbing up the charts and a lot of people are using it

mine was named after a much loved great aunt and has always been known as Ella

she suits it, I love it, she loves it and there are none anywhere near us

she also has two common middle names as well
when did we all become such name snobs?!?!!?

sorry, venting rant over - will go back to enjoying the name I chose for our first dd

I have an Isabelle, and wish I had called her Isabella!
She is known as Izzy by everyone, but Dh and I call her Bella. She may have a common name but she is by no means a common child!!

I think its a beautiful name, and is usually sported by beautiful girls!

LeaveThatEggAloneNaughtyNigel · 24/03/2008 21:02

yup - i've got one too.
didn't know any when we had her - now there's a few but she's the only Izzo.
and yes - tis a lovely name and i only know lovely girls named it.

Ineedsomesleep · 25/03/2008 08:06

Dorothy is lovely too. Heard of a few KC 's recently, Dizzy perhaps you could use it as a middle name for dc3 after McMadisonleigh?

That's it! You have made up my mind. I am due in 10 days (10 long days) with DC2. I must admit I don't know if it's a girl or buy but if it's a girl she will be Isobel or Isabella. Probably Isobel due to surname. I love it . Off to nest - clean out kitchen cupboards. Life as we know it will not continue if I cant clean those cupboards today you know

micegg · 25/03/2008 12:19

here. Besides according to the ONS Isabella/Isabelle were not in the top ten last year. So there!

mazzystar · 25/03/2008 12:23

May I just add - as the mother of an oliver [Very Common apparently] - that most names that are popular, are so because they are really really nice.

micegg · 25/03/2008 12:24

Exactly. I like Oliver as well. Shall add that to my boy list.

sweetkitty · 25/03/2008 12:25

dizzy - I think Isabella is lovely, I have an Abbie and that is so common as well but I didn't care it was always our girls name. I know about another 6 Abbie's though and they are all spelt different.

When are you finding out the sex of DC3? Any thoughts on names yet?

I think we are going for Bethany Grace

dizzydixies · 25/03/2008 13:14

oh sweetkitty bethany grace is lovely - we like grace when pg with dd1 but soon realised the no girl of ours would be graceful to carry it off and we've been right both times lol Abbie was one that dh wanted for dd2 but I said no as the lady nest door's dgd is abbie and dd1 and her play all the time, I DO think its lovely though

we've had the 20wk scan and were debating finding out but legs firmly locked together took away any choice - we've another scan in a few weeks again so no doubt we'll debate it all over again!!

micegg lovely choices!!!

Thanks dizzy I never really thought of Bethany until I said it to DP and he was like "I like it" and it's kind of grown on me, it ticks all our (many) boxes in that it's 3 syllabels so goes with our surname, and is completely different to the other two's names. And she can shorten it to Beth if she wants.

DD1 is still calling her Rosie though. DD1 is actually Abigail Sadie after my Gran. I do like Sadie now though

It's a big secret so don't tell anyone I know

dizzydixies · 25/03/2008 15:31

lol will keep it to myself!

dd1 has decided baby girl will be Pinky and baby boy will be Bluey

this is an old thread, but surpise surprise my dd is an isabella and i absolutely love it!!! she suits it and its so pretty with a beautiful meaning.

Fimbo · 30/07/2008 15:10

One of ds'f friend's is Isobella, known as Bella.

Boobz · 30/07/2008 17:40

I started a thread on here before about Isabella, and as a newly pregnant mum to be, who doesn't know any people will young kids (yet) I had no idea it had become so popular.

So when I asked people about Claudia vs Isabella, it looked like people tipped for Claudia as Isabella were "ten a penny". Not many Claudias about though.

Hoping I can have a boy and call him Gabriel. Or my new favourite is Dashiell, Dash for short.

Isn't it funny how we go on about names?

dizzydixies · 30/07/2008 19:52

oohh I loved Dashiell too but have two dds

maybe this one will be a boy

I like claudia too BUT not the meaning as much as Isabella and Isabella is a family name for us although none before had been known as ella

good luck with your choices and remember you won't please everyone so go with what YOU like

OP posts:
LuLuBai · 30/07/2008 20:51

I love the name and growing up I had always wanted to have a little girl called Isabella.

BUT I was put off by how many there are around. I actually felt rather miffed that 'my' name had been stolen by the world at large.

I guess it's just a very pretty name which is why there are so many around.

flack · 01/08/2008 19:51

I don't know a single Isabella (and I own an Isabel). Or a single Ava.

Funny how the supposedly very popular names on MN never make it big with us hicks in the sticks!

But if you include Isabella, Isobel, Isabelle (other variants) it is THE NAME of my DD's generation. It was a family name for us, too.

Claudia is nice (don't know any of them, either!).

findtheriver · 02/08/2008 13:30

Isabella is NOT a common name! It is popular - but that's not the same thing!!
I would definitely consider it if I were to have another dd, though prefer the abbreviation Izzy, as Ella is also (dare I say it) very popular!

KatieScarlett2833 · 02/08/2008 13:33

My DD's middle name is Isabella, after her grandmother. I call her Bella too.

belgo · 02/08/2008 13:42

It's popular because it's very pretty. It's on my girl's name list, but not on dh's, so it's out for us.

Erica is very nice, it reminds me of Claudia.

DumbledoresGirl · 02/08/2008 13:54

My dd's middle name is Isabella and I bitterly regret not making it her first name. If it had been her first name, I was thinking Izzy was a great way of shortening it when she was little, and Bella is a fantastic nickname for a woman, especially if used by her lover.

clairebear88 · 07/08/2008 10:32

I have a list for both sexes for our future DC and it didnt include Isabel but does now after reading these threads. I think all the variations are lovely but Isabel would be better with our surname and would be shortened to Izzy. DH likes it too ( stand back in amazement ). I would personally rather my child be 1 of 3 Izzys in the class than have some unique name that stands out too much.
