HELP!! Baby boy names!

Hello All!

I need help desperately. I am pregnant with baby no.3. We don't know what we are having. We have our girls name picked out, that is no problem. We are in desperate need of a boys name that we both love.

We already have 2 children, a boy named Frederick who goes by Fred and our little girl Evelina.

Some names we love but are not sure on to give an idea of our 'style'-
Ziggy
Osmond/Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody
Rudy
Sonny

It really needs to be unique, I love Fred's name but there is 4 in his class so we opted for a more unusual choice in Evelina and so far haven't come across another.

I feel like I have been through every baby list, forum, youtube videos and book going and nothing seems to fit. Please help!

People often say 'unique name' to mean not very popular.

It's obvious that is what is wanted in this post, not a made up word.

The OP has said “unique” several times. She must know what it means!

MerryHen · 20/02/2024 18:54

We have a Laurence which fits with your other children's names.

Not a unique name but a lot of people comment on how unusual it is in his age group. We have only ever met one other little Laurence who went by Larry and his parents had also never met another little Laurence.

Just wanted to say I love the name Ziggy, I know 2 adults, both Polish heritage and their full names are Zygmont and known as Ziggy. Both professionals, one is an investment banker and the other is an accountant.

apart from Zygmont I’m afraid I’m useless at suggestions, but I really like all your nearly names! I was going to suggest Wilf or Dexter but not sure they’re quite your vibe!

clickyourredshoestogether3times · 20/02/2024 18:58

Hector?

snackprovidersupreme · 20/02/2024 19:02

Magnus
Hamish
Gideon
Ronald (Ronnie)
Robert (Bobbie or robbie)
Alistair (Ali)
Fergus (Fergie)
Zion

Old man names are now more unusual eg Graham, Iain, etc but I don't think that's your vibe!

Monty now seems a bit too overused for you now, same with Gabriel. Both lovely names though.

BigBoysDontCry · 20/02/2024 19:06

Austin (can still be Ozzy)
Emerson / emmit
Grayson
Ezekiel/zeke

Sunnnybunny72 · 20/02/2024 19:09

I know an Ozzy. He's two.
I also know a Rusty.
Neither short for anything, both names on the bc.

Cotswoldmama · 20/02/2024 19:13

I love Ziggy and my nephew is an Ozzy (not short for anything. I really like the name Jesper Jesse for short. My youngest is called Eben, which is quite unusual we only know one other and that's his we heard of the name. His middle name is Jago but that's suddenly got quite popular.

bellocchild · 20/02/2024 19:16

Ziggy: call him what you like! He can always change it. Zowie Bowie is now Duncan Jones.

GoodVibesHere · 20/02/2024 19:26

Kit (short version of Christopher)
Marley
Jett
Spencer
Emerson (nickname Sonny)
Ozias (nickname Ozzy)

Onelife2024 · 20/02/2024 19:48

How about Dougie?

DuchessOfSausage · 20/02/2024 19:49

Wasn't his birth name Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones? David was David Robert Jones.

Louoby · 20/02/2024 20:20

Whilst you can name your child what "you" like, you should be considerate and think about how it will impact your child's life giving him a silly name like Ziggy!

Nicebloomers · 20/02/2024 20:32

At no point does the OP say that she is considering naming her child Ziggy. Did some people on here struggle with reading comprehension at school or something?

To quote the original post- ‘some names we love but aren’t sure on to give an idea of our style’

the names listed are a jumping off point for further suggestions.

CTW23 · 20/02/2024 20:37

I think they're all great (ziggy not my favourite but still quite cool). Oswald is very nice cause 'Ozzy' is a cool nickname (and a bit like 'ziggy'?) but he could also have Oswald for the professional side later in life

resm · 20/02/2024 21:04

Stanley - Stan
Gregory/Gregor - Greg
Gerard - Gerry
Sebastian - Seb/Sebby/Bas
Solomon - Sol

Exactly! The corporate world isn't as hung up on this as some Mumsnetters seem to believe. Never mind the fact that imo no corporate job in the world is worth being saddled with a boring name like James or Brian.

I have a Laurence/ Laurie. He is in his 20s and we have never met another one . Obviously absolutely love his name,

MaloneMeadow · 20/02/2024 13:48

Why does it matter to you so much that there is no other child with your son’s name? It is a selfish move from parents who get a kick out of being ‘yoonique’ and I’ll stand by that. A 20 year old Ziggy wanting a professional career is going to stand out like a sore thumb, and not for the reasons you want it to.

I also think Ziggy is silly, but in fairness to Op, I have one of the most common names of 80s babies and I have always hated being one of 4 in my school class or at work.

How about something like Julian, or Florian?

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 20/02/2024 21:14

Nathaniel - Nate, Nat or Natty for short.
Montague rather than Montgomery as a 'full' name for Monty.
Edmund or Edgar that can be used in full or can be Ed, Eddie, Ned, Ted for short.
Oswald nn Ozzy

Hushabyelullaby · 20/02/2024 21:28

Barrett nn Rett

Kazimir nn Zimmi/Miri

Zahir nn Zirri

Samir nn Zimmi

Zuberi nn Zuby

sonshineandshowers · 20/02/2024 22:20

Rett is a syndrome

Strokethefurrywall · 20/02/2024 22:36

Axel?

I have a Sullivan which is pretty unheard of, he's nearly 10 now.

Bodhi
Elvis
Ferdinand
Beckett
Everett
Griffin
Dalton

Dalton, Griffin and Bodhi are all on my imaginary 3rd sons list...

FWIW I think Ziggy is just fine!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/02/2024 22:36

Frederick (Fred) and Evelina just seem so “normal” for want of a better word, compared to your choices for DC3 that it makes it hard to make suggestions that aren’t a strange fit with your other DC names - but I understand you don’t want anything as popular as Frederick again. Frederick and Evelina feel kind of retro elegant to me so maybe:

Abraham or Bertram (Bram)
Edmund
August
Claude
Phillip ( Pip)
Benedict
Laurence (Laurie)
Maximilian ( Maxim)

BigBoysDontCry · 20/02/2024 22:41

Barnaby/Barney
