Too similar to friend's baby name??

Our friend has a baby called Judd.

If we were to call our baby "George" would that be strange?

We wouldn't shorten our son's name to Judd and since they'll grow up together, our son wouldn't get the nickname of Judd anyway, since there will already be an actual Judd.

(Side note, our friend also has a brother called George (Judd's uncle). They didn't name their son after him, and he's never had his name shortened to Judd either. They just like the name Judd.)

Tbh I'd never heard of George being shortened to Judd until last year, but someone told me it's strange to call our baby George if our friends baby is Judd.

Thoughts??

I don’t think I’ve ever met a Judd.

but it certainly isn’t the same as George. And not too similar.

George and Judd are so wildly different 😂 your friend is pulling your toes.

Oranesandlemons · 17/02/2024 16:52

I’ve never heard of George being shortened to Judd and don’t think they’re too similar at all!

If your that worried speak to your friend. My cousin named her boy a similar name to my girl. So much so when you say it, both kids will answer. It never bothered me and they are a week apart xx

It's a non issue. Hth.

UrsulaBelle · 17/02/2024 17:48

TBH even if she’d used George it wouldn’t really matter. Two of my friends, best friends of each other both called their DSes Matthew, born within a few weeks of each other, because they both loved the name. Never been an issue and the two boys didn’t even go to the same school. Judd and George are plenty different enough to each other. Ignore your other friend.

Yes it is. It’s my great Uncle’s name.

My Uncle George was know as Judd too.

2mummies1baby · 17/02/2024 18:29

Judd and George don't even have any letters in common!

GreatGardenstuff · 17/02/2024 19:12

You can call baby Judd or George or whatever you want. Your ‘friend’ isn’t being helpful.

Lollzi86 · 17/02/2024 19:39

Judd is a nickname for George in Yorkshire as judd means saint, hence the nickname (from Saint George). I’ve only ever heard it used as a nickname for one George I know though (and I’m from Yorkshire).

@Harry12345 wrong thread?

Yip no idea how that happened lol

Previousreligion · 17/02/2024 20:59

Totally different names in my mind, I wouldn't have thought twice.

littlemousebigcheese · 17/02/2024 23:20

No help but I hate both George and judd!

theduchessofspork · 18/02/2024 08:36

George is not normally shortened to Judd in the UK (at least not these days) so your friend is taking nonsense. It’s fine.
