I think it is rather pretty - think Linda Evangalista..

Is it due a revival - does anyone know a Linda and would you consider it for your DDs?

I know two my aunt and my niece, but since it's a family name I woudn't use it.

wheresthehamster · 23/03/2008 11:55

It's in that folder marked '60s names - not due for revival yet' along with Susan, Carol, Karen and Sharon

meemar · 23/03/2008 11:55

Doesn't it mean 'pretty' in Spanish (or is it Italian?)

It's very plain sounding in English though.

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 23/03/2008 11:59

One of my friends is called Linda and there's a nice Caesaria Evora song called Linda Mimosa which makes me think of her...

lljkk · 23/03/2008 12:04

Linda does mean 'pretty' in Spanish. I wouldn't choose it myself (I like others better), but if you like it, go for it.

alfiesbabe · 23/03/2008 12:13

It always sounds like there's a bit missing to me. Like it's short for Belinda, or Melinda or something. And agree it's very 60s.

princessosyth · 23/03/2008 12:14

I like Lindy.

wheresthehamster · 23/03/2008 12:15

I like Lynne and wouldn't mind if that came back

fishie · 23/03/2008 12:21

linda is name of heroine of 'the pursuit of love' i think. it is a nice name.

bluenosesaint · 23/03/2008 12:28

Reminds me of an old busy body i used to work with ...i could never use it! lol

MrsBadger · 23/03/2008 12:30

surely she is an admin person in a hospital...

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 23/03/2008 12:31

You took the words right out of my mouth Mrs B...

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 23/03/2008 12:36

Linda in the Nancy Mitford book names her baby Brenda

fishie · 23/03/2008 12:51

hahaha does she? i'd forgotten that. actually brenda is quite nice too once you get away from its connotations.

slinkiemalinki · 23/03/2008 15:46

Lusardi?

AbbeyA · 23/03/2008 20:12

As there seems to be a revival of, what I would term dreadful, names from 1920's-Mabel, Elsie, Winifred, Pearl, Ruby etc I would assume that Linda, Janet, Susan, Patricia, Lesley, Barbara, Brenda etc would follow on next!

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2008 20:14

I thought she called her Moira Masmotheredinchocolate
just read it today and thought it must be due for a revival

LynetteScavo · 23/03/2008 20:15

Hmmm... Just wondering of the likelyood of being a grandma to a Linda Please no. I went to school with a very large breasted Linda. She was a cow.

fryalot · 23/03/2008 20:15

whatever happened to Linda?

hmm....

she was hiding away on the slow train home wasn't she?

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/03/2008 20:27

is there a Brenda in an Evelyn Waugh novel ?

maretta · 23/03/2008 20:38

I think that - well obviously really - that names don't make a comeback until their previous owners are dead.

The trouble is, particluarly with girls names, if you get a name fashionable only 30, 40, 50 yeas ago, it can be ageing, don't you think. Susan, Carol, Karen etc.

I think Jaqueline and samantha are pretty but it'll be a while before they come round again.
