Joanna.

Sash95 · 29/01/2024 21:34

I prefer Joanna. It's a very pretty name. Feminine but strong.

MaloneMeadow · 29/01/2024 21:40

Neither, both awfully dated and not particularly nice names either - I can’t think of a singular Joanne/Joanna below 40

lljkk · 29/01/2024 21:52

Both great names.

TrustPenguins · 29/01/2024 21:54

Joanna.

Jowak1 · 29/01/2024 21:55

I'm a Joanne ( born 1978) and my mum said she didn't want to call me Joanna as it rhymed with Piano lol 😂

Peakypolly · 29/01/2024 21:57

I'm a fan of both, but marginally prefer Joanne.
I was surprised to meet a baby Joey this month - actually Josephine- so maybe these names are having a resurgence.

salamithumbs · 29/01/2024 21:57

I like them both but slightly prefer Joanna!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 29/01/2024 21:58

I know lots of Joanna’s as fairly common among the Greek community. A few Ioanna’s as well.

Aydel · 29/01/2024 22:01

I was born in the 60s and Joanna and Joanne were popular then. I’ve never met a Jo I didn’t like. It’s an underused classic name.

User1775 · 29/01/2024 22:04

the a version is the middle class version the e is working class:

Joanne Joanna
Julie Julia
Pauline Paula
Annie Anna

etc

IcedupTulip · 29/01/2024 22:05

What about Jodie?

Synergies · 29/01/2024 22:07

Johanna is also nice Smile

Lemonyyellow · 29/01/2024 22:08

I think both are too dated. What about Anna?

TedWilson · 29/01/2024 22:10

Joanna

Mitherations · 29/01/2024 22:10

Could you go for Anna? Someone was recently asking whether Dean is back yet, and I think Joanne's in his Ford xr3i passenger seat.

BringItOnxxx · 29/01/2024 22:13

As per pps Johanna, Joanie, Anna are all better. Joanna would be OK if shortened to Jo as a nickname. But also it's not the worst name in the world and could eventually sound less dated.

ellenpartridge · 29/01/2024 22:19

Yes to Joanna. No to Joanne!

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 29/01/2024 22:24

Joanna’s lovely, and doesn’t feel dated to me because, although I know quite a few in their 40s, they’re all known as Jo so consistently that the full name doesn’t get enough exposure to feel tired. I have a cousin in her 30s who spells it Joannah which is nice too. I think it would be a great name on a little girl (also love Susannah and Rosanna).

Not a fan of Joanne, and the only saving grace I can think of for Josephine is that when you inevitably end up as Jo most people will assume you’re a Joanna…

BananaSplitsss · 29/01/2024 22:24

I think Joanna is a lovely name- pretty, yet classic.
I know a couple of Joanna’s . Both lovely.

happytobee · 29/01/2024 22:25

Similar but a bit less dated - Joanie?

HeadNW · 29/01/2024 22:26

I love Joanna and think it’s due a comeback.

Jo is a lovely nickname.

Er, no. Julie is the French form of the Latin name Julia. Etc

Joanna. A million times better than Joanna. Like Julia is so much nicer than Julie.

Really agree. Like Christina is so much better than Christine.
Even Suzannah better than Suzanne.
Adding an 'a' sometimes makes all the difference.
Definitely Joanna.

Pemba · 29/01/2024 22:39

I like Joanna, it has a musical sound. Joanne not so much, but it's OK.
