Just that really. I love the name Jessica (nn Jess) for our DD, due in a couple of weeks.

What are people's opinions?

DuchessOfSausage · 28/01/2024 12:27

Yes. Much nicer than the vowelly or L-based names

LightSpeeds · 28/01/2024 12:50

Yes!!

peaceinourtime · 28/01/2024 13:29

Try Jessie, it’s a nice stand alone name and Jessica will get shortened to Jess or Jessie anyway

American12 · 28/01/2024 15:07

Always thought this is a beautiful name. I would consider it if I had another

toomuchfaster · 28/01/2024 15:43

Very common here at the moment, 3 in DD's year and it's her middle name!

Sash95 · 28/01/2024 20:18

Thank you all for the comments.

I feel a lot more confident in my choice of name now. The day I found out I was having a girl, Jessica was the first name that popped into my head. I've tried out so many other names since then, but I keep coming around in full circle. Oddly it is not a name I would have considered before becoming pregnant. Now it just feels right. :)

Lovely timeless name

vanillaspice235 · 28/01/2024 20:24

Yes!

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 28/01/2024 20:35

My DD 14 is called Jessica and I love the name. When she was in primary school her class had 3 Jessica’s and her teacher called them different
(1) jess
(2) Jessie
(3) Jessica

BoleynMemories13 · 28/01/2024 22:41

Yes, why not? It's lovely and fairly classic. Just because it's not as popular as it once was, doesn't mean it's dated. There are still Jessicas about.

It would actually make a nice change these days from all the old lady chic Mabel, Ivy, Margot, Elsie, Violet, Clara etc which are everywhere right now.

pontipinemum · 29/01/2024 11:34

I have always loved the name Jessica, it was my go to fake name when I was younger and didn't want to give guys my real name!

BingoMarieHeeler · 29/01/2024 11:36

It’s lovely!

I know under 4s called:
Amy
Hayley
Gabriella
Zoe x2
Lauren

80s/90s names are back baby!

GrandDuchessOfBillericay · 29/01/2024 13:44

Jessica, as previous posters said is fairly timeless. I've worked in education a while and whilst it's not as insanely popular as it was in the eighties and nineties, there's usually at least one per key stage. (This has been consistent ime for around 15 years when I started teaching).
Diminutives are Jess, Jessi and Jessie.

Might be worth waiting to make a firm decision until the ONs is published (depending on when you are due obviously) as it might appear on there in any of those forms. Look out for the male version Jesse too.

Lots of scope for middle names too, I like a longer first name and shorter middle name myself. Have you any ideas?

buttons55 · 29/01/2024 13:46

I'm 35 and in school I knew a lot, at least a few per year group

GrandDuchessOfBillericay · 29/01/2024 13:49

Yes that was peak Jessica time. It was the Olivia/Ava of the late eighties.

Wugglesworth · 29/01/2024 14:38

Yes, lovely name

Bearcub01 · 29/01/2024 15:54

I love Jessica. It’ll be on my list, but I think I prefer Jess with our surname. It’s definitely a good, classic name.

My DS has a J name so I don’t really want to be one of these people that only choose the same initials!

Sash95 · 29/01/2024 16:05

@GrandDuchessOfBillericay Thank you! And yes, I've had a middle name picked out from day 1. It will be Maeve after my grandma. I like a longer first name and a shorter middle name, too. Although, I will almost definitely be calling her Jess as a nn.

Laureatus · 29/01/2024 17:18

Yes, definitely. I know a 4-yr old Jessica.

GrandDuchessOfBillericay · 29/01/2024 17:23

I think Jessica Maeve has a nice ring to it, the Maeve being a nod to current trends but Jessica being a classic.

Neolara · 29/01/2024 17:26

Great name.
