Valeria, Lilian or Vivian? For a girl!

Which one do you prefer?

Vivian ! It’s beautiful.

Unsure how this is possible me for you as Vivienne sounds the exact same as Vivien? I know both.

I prefer Vivian to Valeria, they're both pretty but Viv is nicer than Val. Lilian is lovely, but it will be shortened to Lily which is a bit ubiquitous (you may not mind that!)

But they're all gorgeous names, so whichever you choose will be fine.

It's the unnecessary frilly spelling - it's just not needed in English, as your comment shows. The same applies - in my opinion - to Annabel and Isabel/Isobel, and to Juliet. No need for doubled-consonants-plus-an-e at the end. Plain and simple is almost always more elegant, IMHO.

Lillian

I like Vivienne, don't like Lillian. Valeria is nice if you come from a country where it is used - for a child in the UK I would assume there was some connection with one of those countries.

Valeria makes me think of Venereal. Lillian is grannyish and not in a good way. Vivian sounds like one of The Young Ones.

Vivienne is popular on here but I'm not keen Vivien makes me think of someone about 70. The Vivian spelling is for boys.

Valeria is a bit ‘heroine in a fairy smut romance novel’ for my liking. Lillian and Vivian are both beautiful, I like Vivian especially.

I don’t like Vivian because the spelling causes confusion. Vivian is that guy from the Young ones. Vivien is okay but some people will spell it Vivienne. Will that bother you?

Lilian is nice. If people spell / pronounce it Lily-Ann, will that annoy you? People are annoying and someone will do that.

I like Valeria. I actually love Valerian when it appears in my garden.

Anything but Lilian. 90% of the time it’ll be spelled Lillian. Shortening it to Lily is vaguely ok apart from the fact that there’ll be loads of them around and shortening it to Lil is going to make people my age have a mental picture of fag ash lil, a deeply unfunny comedy character.

I hate the name. Don’t ask why 🤣

Valeria is lovely. The only Lilian I’ve ever known was rough as a badger’s arse so no to that.
