Susannah and Suzanne. Been listening to Suzannd by Leonard Cohen and I'm quite fond of them.

I really like both. The only problem is that I'm not that keen on Susie as a nickname.

BonkInTheNight · 27/01/2024 19:18

I like both, hauntingly beautiful song.
Not keen on Susan, and not sure about Suzy, Susie.

DuchessOfSausage · 27/01/2024 19:19

I like the song. Susie seems more now than Suzy.
Suzanne seems a bit 1970.

I like Susan and Susie.

dreamersdown · 27/01/2024 19:30

Love them both, and knew a really cool girl called Zanna, short for Suzanna.

Mandarinaduck · 27/01/2024 19:32

I like Susannah a lot. Suzanne feels dated to me. Love the song though!

KarenAnalia · 27/01/2024 19:47

I would say go for Susanna, in my opinion there is no need for the extra ‘H’. Just more writing LOL! Suzanne is a little dated now, better go with something timeless 😊❤️

louisabranchers · 27/01/2024 19:48

I’d say that Susan is quite nice because it juxtaposes to the modern day view of the patriarchy, plus you can shorten it with sesura and call it Susie.

BonkInTheNight · 27/01/2024 19:55

@louisabranchers that's a somewhat unusual and disorganised sentence. Is everything ok?

Zoomerang · 27/01/2024 19:57

I like Suzannah, nn Suki.

I’d also like some of whatever@louisabranchers has been drinking.

louisabranchers · 27/01/2024 19:57

Do NOT question my intelligence. I have a PhD in English Literature and Linguistics and additionally I am dyslexic and I have ADHD. My life would be better if I wasn’t targeted everyday.

I am a non alcoholic vegan

Amalienborg · 27/01/2024 20:05

Susannah is lovely and feels timeless, I'm less keen on Suzanne which to me is a bit dated.
The only Susannah I know goes by Zanne for short rather than Susie.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 27/01/2024 20:10

Susannah is a beautiful timeless name in my opinion

Onelife2024 · 27/01/2024 20:32

I love Susannah and Susie as a shortening.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 27/01/2024 21:24

Susannah is a great name, a classic . Suzanne doesn’t have the same feeling

miniaturepixieonacid · 27/01/2024 22:39

I like Susannah but not Suzanne. Such similar names but feel really different somehow. A bit like Joanna and Joanne.

Not keen on Sue, Susie or Suki. But I really like Zanna as a nickname. Or Anna.

theduchessofspork · 27/01/2024 22:42

I love Susannah and the one I know is just called that.. but I’m not wild about Susie it Sukey.

Swearwolf · 27/01/2024 22:48

One of these is my name and I absolutely hate it. Nobody gets it right, people call me Susan, no-one can spell it, and it's dated (and was already dated when I was born, so makes me sound 15 years older than I am). People try to shorten it to Sue, which is just awful, or Susie which gives me no authority at work. Absolutely terrible.

Viviennemary · 27/01/2024 22:49

I prefer Susannah. But don't mind Suzanne.

Windymcwindyson · 27/01/2024 23:42

Prefer Roseanna

Nobody’s targeting you - talking utter bollocks about the patriarchy is nothing to do with dyslexia..

GaryBerrycloth · 28/01/2024 00:15

Susannah is derived from the Hebrew name Shoshannah, which carries the beautiful meanings of "lily" or "rose".

Currently unpopular names imbued with floral imagery, but also hold symbolic and historical significance. The Leonard Cohen connection is nice.

I guess it all comes down to whether or not to like the diminutives.

muddyford · 28/01/2024 08:31

I prefer Susannah but both are nice. I don't understand why people are saying they don't like the diminutives (though I love Sue, Susie not so much). If you never use them neither will anyone else. A friend has an Alexandra and she has never, in my hearing, been called Al or Alex. Go for what you love.

DesertSnow · 28/01/2024 09:54

Prefer Susannah but think you can't go wrong with either

You say that, but I never use them and people shorten it all the time. I will never be a Sue but that doesn't stop them!
