Do you think they "go together"?
Thanks!

@Mumofgirls2017 Piper or "Pijper" sadly has a whole different meaning in Dutch

Don't go together. Sienna is modern, and Phillipa is old, frumpy lady

ChaosAndCrumbs · 25/01/2024 08:54

I agree with pp. I think Sienna was used more in the US first and sounds modern with a colour meaning, whereas Philippa is a more classic name. I’m not actually sure Pip goes with Sienna, as Sienna is flown and Pip is more of a traditional old boy’s nickname that sounds cute. Depends what Sienna’s nickname is though and also doesn’t matter what I think as it’s your dc 😊

Wictc · 25/01/2024 09:00

Do they need to go together? They’re not going to be joined at the hip. I’m not so keen on Philippa, it was popular for 80s children, like Sarah. I know two and it’s always shortened to Phil (despite one of them whose parents call them Pip).

Toomuchgoingon79 · 25/01/2024 09:26

No they don't go togther. Phillipa is frumpy and will get shortened to Phil, at least the 3 that are in their 40's are. You need something more modern sounding I think.

MrsMitford3 · 25/01/2024 09:30

Just to add a bit of balance-I love Phillipa-Sienna is not to my taste at all but since you already named your DD that I will leave it.
But I think Phillipa gorgeous name but the styles are very clashing

TallulahBetty · 25/01/2024 09:35

Poor Philippa. Bad enough that she is called Philippa, but then her sister gets a lovely name.

fightingthedogforadonut · 25/01/2024 09:37

Blimey, this thread is peak Mumsnet...

OP, they are both perfectly acceptable names. If you like them, go for it.

notacooldad · 25/01/2024 09:39

What a load of BS on this thread.
Why do names have to ' go together '
If you like the names , use them.

Kokeshi123 · 25/01/2024 09:40

They're absolutely fine. I really don't understand the Mumsnet obsession with perfectly matching names. As long as the names are not so bizarrely different in style as to provoke laughter ("Have you met my two children Persephone and Bob?"), it's perfectly OK for one name to be a bit newer etc. than the other one.

Absolutely ridiculous!

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 09:41

Philippa is much nicer than Sienna

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 25/01/2024 09:46

No they don't. Not that they necessarily need to.

To me Sienna is a beautiful, cool name and Philippa is quite the opposite.

Names that go with Sienna that immediately come to mind:
Savannah
Sadie

CharlesChickens · 25/01/2024 09:50

I really like Philippa, underused now. Helps that the two I knew at school were both lovely. Pip is a very nice nn too.

Tempnamechng · 25/01/2024 09:55

I think people put too much thought into matchy matchy sibling names. They are individuals and if you like the names then you go for it. It's fine to have cats or dogs with themed or matching names, but not necessarily children. It's cute in the early years of let's dress them the same kind of way, but that's it.

pilates · 25/01/2024 10:54

In answer to your question no they don’t.

To me, Phillipa sounds frumpy. Sienna is a different vibe.

PamelaParis · 24/01/2024 19:25

They don't go together at all. Sienna is Amber's sister. Phillipa is Charlotte's sister. For example. Totally different vibes.

Yup

I don't think people are saying that names have to match. Yes, people are individuals but they are also part of a family unit. I wouldn't want to be the one called Balonz when my siblings are called Andrew and Peter. You want a sense of belonging.

I agree! Sienna is the hot one, Philippa is the ugly duckling.

TedWilson · 25/01/2024 23:11

I actually quite like them together!

Kokeshi123 · 25/01/2024 23:45

Why do people think Sienna is similar to Amber? Every Amber I know is over 40 - I'd be quite surprised (pleasantly) to see it on a baby (it's a nice name, just not particularly similar to Sienna, which is very 21st century).

Maybe because they are colour names.

No, Philippa only wears lambswool jumpers so you won't be able to hand down Sienna's clothes to her.

Cracked up 😂

Also, for PPs, I have a Philippa who has never one, in their life, been 'Phil'.
The common nicknames are Pippa and Pip.
