Elsa???

My sister just named her newborn Elsa! I desperately tried to warn her of the consequences (Frozen jokes etc.) but she went ahead with it anyway. I think it’s a gorgeous name but too associated with Disney… what does everyone else think?

She’ll likely be called Ellie along with all the other Elsas, Ellas, Ellies, Eleanors etc - so I wouldn’t worry about that

It’s more than it’s a bit dull because so many of them and so many El names. But it’s nice anyway. She won’t get teased - it’s very popular full stop.

People might move on but the child has to live with the name.
There aren't many Elsas but there are lots of Elsies and Ellas.
It was Elsa the lioness in my day. Smile

Elsa is a beautiful name. It's not overdone at all (probably because people have avoided it with the Frozen link). I wouldn't worry about it one bit. Elsa is a good character anyway, and i am old enough that I think of the Born Free lioness, also a positive association.

I love it and it was my first choice for my first dc- who turned out to be a boy.
this was literally a few weeks before Frozen came out so it felt a lucky escape at the time. 10 years ago now though.
although it’s not a bad one, I do think many will make the connotation unfortunately

I think it's ok. Quite a weak name but it sounds nice enough.

Frozen is getting old so that shouldn't be an issue....

Until the movie Frozen the only Elsa I knew was a woman who would be over 50 now. I wouldn’t let it get to you.

Showing my age - it makes me think of the Baroness in the Sound of Music!

There is an Elsa in yr4 at my DDs school, she’s blond & blue eyed, no one cares. Her DF is Swedish, it’s a family name, they spend a lot of time is Sweden so she knows it’s a normal name and not anything to do with Frozen.

As someone said, no one blinks an eye at Alice, Aurora, Belle or other TV character names. I think the days of teasing and name comparisons are leaving. Most names would be used in TV shows, movies at some point or another, people need to stop being ridiculous and making a big deal of a child being given a perfectly normal name just because someone choose to use it in a movie.

Now if the OPs sisters surname was West and she called her child Rosemary, I’d be worried.

If 23 year old ds had been a dd, he'd probably have been an Elsa Smile

It was my lovely Granny's name - although for complicated reasons, she was known as Billy from the age of 10.
