Nicholas Grant?

I think I'd keep Grant as a middle name. All the other first names are good.

Andrewsteve · 21/01/2024 01:40

Can't use that one but thanks

I'd for James first and Christopher second (Kit for short) but I wouldn't use Grant as a first name.

James Grant
Grant Nicholas
Grant Christopher
Christopher Grant

I think the most harmonious to me is Christopher Grant, but the surname that this name would go with could completely change that harmony... so it's very hard to say without that info or maybe the amount of syllables in the surname.

Andrewsteve · 21/01/2024 01:47

Two syllables

I'd not use Grant as the first name. Christopher Grant or James I'd go with

Pemba · 21/01/2024 01:51

I really like James, quite like Nicholas, and Christopher is OK. Don't particularly like Grant and I definitely wouldn't use it as the first name, (OK as a middle or surname) but I'm guessing it has a particular significance to you.

coxesorangepippin · 21/01/2024 01:51

Christopher Grant

Elspethelf · 21/01/2024 02:17

James Grant or Christopher Grant are my faves from your list. I like a short strong middle name sound

thebestinterest · 21/01/2024 02:21

Why don’t people like the name Grant? Seems quite strong and underused. I like it a lot.

mintich · 21/01/2024 02:23

I love the name Grant. Grant Christopher is my favourite

Pemba · 21/01/2024 02:41

Why I don't particularly like the name Grant:

Grant. Grunt. Thuggish character that used to be on EastEnders. Seems a bit dated.

Dislike of surnames used as first names in general. Because they're always a bit ambiguous, you know how on some official forms they write Surname, First name. Feels like the person hasn't got a real first name, but 2 surnames. Why, when there are so many lovely names available?

Also Grant is not a very mellifluous sound. Very short and basic. Dislike of names beginning with Gr... in general. Grrr.., grim, grumpy, grizzled, grey, grime, anGRy, it's a harsh sound in general. Although I admit Grace has grown on me in recent years, probably because of the lovely meaning.

I don't really hate it though, there are worse names out there. Fine as a middle.

noooooooo · 21/01/2024 02:53

Grant is a bit - aggressive sounding? Depends on your accent of course but in mine, it’s a nasally bark. Might sound nicer in accents with less flat vowels.

James Grant, for me, presuming James Nicholas isn’t an option or it’d be listed.

Andrewsteve · 21/01/2024 03:04

I like it too but I guess people tend to like what's popular and reject what's not

Interesting
What about the ratings?

Thank you I love it too

James Grant is my favourite

Christopher Grant is also nice

Sorry, Grant as a first name isn’t to my taste

Babyblackbear78 · 21/01/2024 06:37

Christopher Grant but don’t like Grant as a first name. Only because I can’t imagine a baby being called Grant, it sounds rough.

GenXisthebest · 21/01/2024 06:39

Christopher Grant is my favourite, then James Grant.

The reason I'm less keen on Grant as a first name is that to me it's a word rather than a name IYSWIM, eg to get a grant from the council.

theduchessofspork · 21/01/2024 07:03

Christopher Grant nn Christy perhaps

Too many Jameses

Grant as a first name is not due a revival for a good couple of decades - like Dean

The same.

InTheRainOnATrain · 21/01/2024 10:31

I don’t like Grant. If it’s a nod to a dear family member who you feel like you must honour I would definitely make it the middle name. James, you’ll probably find 50% of the nursery Dads are called James and they’ll all turn round when you yell it across a birthday party. You don’t hear it much on little ones though. Christopher is nice. I know a few small ones but Kit seems to be the common diminutive these days.

Metallicant · 21/01/2024 12:01

Christopher Grant sounds best

Not keen on the ‘Grant as a first name’ combinations

SleepingStandingUp · 21/01/2024 12:46

James Grant 2nd. 7/10
Grant Nicholas 3rd. 4/10
Grant Christopher 4th 2/10
Christopher Grant 1st. 10/10

KirstenBlest · 21/01/2024 13:11

I'd go by what sounds best with the surname. James Smith, Grant Smith or Christopher/Kit/Chris Smith
