Names like Jemima

I want to stress that I am naming a kitten.
I really hope this doesn't offend fans of this board.

I love the name Jemima! I wish I'd used it on my own DD. I can't use it for a kitten now as we now have family members called Gemma.

What other names can you suggest?

It's a cat; you can call it any name you like.
I've known several dogs with my name and I haven't been offended.
Anyway, Gemma stresses the 'e' sound and Jemima the 'I' sound, so fairly different.

Glitterbiscuits · 13/01/2024 09:40

Because one of the Gemmas has Jemima as a bit of a nickname

I like Tabitha but the cat isn't tabby.
I really like Matilda!!!

My family has definitely named kittens after family members(although they’d passed away so it was different).

Some great names. Some are family names ( Winifred, Mildred) sone have been used for cats already Lavinia would have been great but we know a cat called that

I really like Daphne. Great suggestion
Matilda is my front runner

I really like Matilda!!!

We had a Matilda cat, though we called her Tilly for short. Lovely cat name.

(also inspired by the comedy Hilaire Belloc “cautionary tale” Matilda, about a child who told dreadful lies - our cat would always declare she hadn’t been fed, deny she’d licked up the food from the counter, pretend it wasn’t her who’d cuffed her brother etc so it seemed quite fitting!)

@Glitterbiscuits , you need to pay the kitten tax.

Inspired by another thread, Guinevere (Winnie for short).

peaceinourtime · 13/01/2024 13:16

Whoopi after Whoopi Goldberg is nice

Glitterbiscuits · 13/01/2024 13:25

I will post a picture as soon as she comes home

Guinevere is nice too

I want something pretty, feminine and old fashioned. All the things I'm not really

Until i did family history I hadn't realised Matilda was a family name. Dd2 would have been Matilda if I had known.
Naming cats and dogs with unused baby names is great.

How about a name that you really like but thought might be a bit too frilly/'different' for a daughter.

Glitterbiscuits · 13/01/2024 17:40

Nancy! That's a contender. Thank you

KirstenBlest · 13/01/2024 17:48

You could call her Glitterbiscuits.
Nancy is a good one. Strong and sassy.
