Patrick or Heath?

Hi!

We’re set on a girls name but really stuck between these two names - middle name would be David, surname Gray.

Any opinions on them or anyone who has used either of these names?

Thank you!

Patrick goes better with your surname, but I like both.

SiobhanSharpe · 12/01/2024 10:13

Patrick is a lovely, classic name that is not common enough in this country to either be in fashion or fall out of it.
Unfortunately Heath reminds me of Heath Ledger.😥

Wrongsideofpennines · 12/01/2024 10:17

I would go with Patrick. Having first and surnames with just one syllable doesn't sound as good.

I have a friend whose toddler is Heath, I don't think it really suits him and unfortunately hasn't really grown on me in 2 years. It reminds me of Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights and that Kate Bush song.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/01/2024 10:17

Patrick, by far.

Wytchy · 12/01/2024 10:18

I quite like Heath as a name but Heath Gray is a bit abrupt.

Patrick Gray is lovely.

KirstenBlest · 12/01/2024 10:18

Patrick. Heath Grey sounds like a colour.

QuiltedHippo · 12/01/2024 10:20

I LOVE both these names (and also struggled with boys names), I think Patrick goes best with your surname though even if Heath is slightly my more preferred name.

Whataretheodds · 12/01/2024 10:20

Patrick is much nicer and works better with your surname

NotFastButFurious · 12/01/2024 10:26

Patrick is a great name. I don't like Heath at all.

Doublebiscuit77 · 12/01/2024 10:35

Patrick is a great name.

user1492757084 · 12/01/2024 10:36

Both are handsome.

Sandysandwich · 12/01/2024 10:37

They're nice names, I'd use Patrick as Heath Gray sounds a bit like a crayon

BombaySamphire · 12/01/2024 10:37

Patrick.
Heath is awful.

HarpyRampant · 12/01/2024 10:37

Patrick. Heath Gray sounds like a paint colour.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 12/01/2024 10:39

I prefer heath but Patrick goes better.

I have got David Grey - Babylon suck in my head now though😂

Onelife2024 · 12/01/2024 10:47

Love Patrick

Heath isn’t to my taste and agree with pp that Heath Gray sounds like a paint colour!

blackoverbillsmothers · 12/01/2024 10:51

Patrick sounds better with Grey. I think Patrick Grey is very nice.

Heath makes me think of Heath Robinson.

SwiftyMcGifty · 12/01/2024 11:10

Ooh, I have a Heath!

Pros: you don't meet many (I have met one other a similar age). Very easy to spell and say (I gave one of my other children a more complicated name and I have occasionally wished I'd gone for something closer to Bob). He LOVES it: thinks it's "really cool", and a bit niche but every road trip we take he likes seeing his name in loads of place signs 😂. He really likes that there's a film star with it.

Cons: people do sometimes mishear and say "Keith? You don't meet many Keith's!"

Ihatemondays1962 · 12/01/2024 11:12

Patrick.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/01/2024 12:06

Patrick. Much, much nicer name, not likely to go out of fashion, goes better with both David and your surname.

MsFrog · 12/01/2024 12:21

I have a Patrick and I love it. It's not very common at all, if that's important to you. We haven't come across another one yet, I don't think. Beautiful, classic boys name - although obv I'm going to say that!

PostmanPatIsIncompetent · 12/01/2024 14:55

I'm a bit surprised at the love for Patrick. To me that's a middle aged dad name, a bit like Simon, Martin, Paul, Tim. Nothing wrong with them at all (nothing wrong with any names in fact, I am a firm believer in you choose what you love, rather than what other people do!) but I see them as names on the way out, rather than undated classics/coming back in. I know a 35yo Patrick and he thinks his name is a bit of an old man's name.

But then if I've learnt anything about baby names it's: 1, everyone's different, and 2, the child becomes the name so you end up loving it either way

Mochacino · 12/01/2024 14:58

Patrick will never not be my favourite boys name so I’m biased. David is also a fantastic name.
i struggle to actually say Heath Gray. More like a shade of Farrow and Ball too possibly

PickledScrump · 12/01/2024 15:49

Patrick is great, knew a Patrick that went by Trick which I always thought was pretty cool.

Heath I don’t like so much, sounds like the sound of someone sighing

MissyB1 · 12/01/2024 15:53

Patrick, but I have a Patrick so obviously I love it! He’s the only one at school and he likes that.
Heath Grey sounds like a Dulux shade.
