Just that really. And if they are, any suggestions?

Definitely too similar.

James and Jacob
Jack and Jeremy

Did you particularly want two j names?

Holly60 · 06/01/2024 06:48

I don't think so. I think James and Jack work well together

DustyLee123 · 06/01/2024 06:50

I don’t think so, it wouldn’t occur to me,

PermanentTemporary · 06/01/2024 06:52

I'd find it a bit odd yes but no more than that.

I think James and Jacob almost worse as you'll inevitably end up with James and Jake - at least Jack has a different vowel sound.

ALittleBitAhAh · 06/01/2024 06:52

My husband and his brother are James and Jack. Never thought twice about it to he honest!

whataretherulesss · 06/01/2024 07:00

I think they sound lovely together.

StrangeNew · 06/01/2024 07:00

With all respect to the in-laws of @ALittleBitAhAh, it would make it sound as if your children’s parents were very dull and lacking in imagination.

They may even slightly feel themselves that they’re part of a rather dull household!

I wouldn’t do it …

PheobeBebe · 06/01/2024 07:01

I think they are too close together sorry

thechangling · 06/01/2024 07:01

They're fine. A good match

🤣🤣🤣 They just liked traditional names I think 🤷‍♀️ The men definitely don't feel they grew up in a dull household so all good!

autumn1610 · 06/01/2024 07:06

I personally can’t bear siblings with the same letter. So for me an absolute no. If that’s what your going for then I think they go fine together

Holidayhell22 · 06/01/2024 07:08

Totally fine.

googledidnthelp · 06/01/2024 07:13

Josh/ua and Jack

@strangenew @ALittleBitAhAh this is quite extreme 😳 we like traditional names for boys and a lot of them are ruled out because family used them already...

Too close to each other as well for the future, Mr J Smith. Can mean they open each others post.
Mr J smith at same address with close together birthdays could also result in mistakes on medical and dental records. They will sit next to each other on the computer and it won’t be obvious if the wrong one is chosen

choose names with different first letters.

NannyR · 06/01/2024 07:52

As siblings they sound very similar, but they are nice enough, classic names and they won't be referred to as a pair of siblings for most of their life - at school and as an adult they will be individuals.
I wouldn't go for James and Jacob as they are pretty much the same name - James is derived from the Hebrew name Jacob.

Copasetic · 06/01/2024 07:54

Personally I think it's fine. My SIL is James and his brother Jonathan and I've never given it a second thought.

StrangeNew · 06/01/2024 07:57

Everyone likes traditional names, @Verycherryberry! Everyone.

@isthewashingdryyet makes a really good point - surely a strong reason to think again?

Shouldgetupearlier · 06/01/2024 07:59

I think they sound great together, but would be put off by the shared initial.

whatsitabout79 · 06/01/2024 08:02

No definitely not. Both lovely names.

What an odd thing to think Confused

nowthelighthasgone · 06/01/2024 08:03

It's absolutely fine they're great names

HardcoreLadyType · 06/01/2024 08:08

What about when they’re older and get letters to Mr J Surname? Or you get school or doctors correspondence about them.

It’s the same first initial that’s the problem, in my view.

(I know brothers David and Daniel who had this issue.)

Onelife2024 · 06/01/2024 09:56

Both are lovely names and sound fine together, as long as you don’t mind the possible issue with them having the same first initial

Willmafrockfit · 06/01/2024 09:57

i dont think so
be careful when receiving post, might get confusing - i see it has been mentioned already.
i have the same initials as my ds, so have to read carefully before opening a letter.
