Expecting and hoping for a little girl this time. ☺️

In the running we have:

Sasha
Ursula
Penelope
Ferne

Which do you prefer?

Ursula is a little hard to the ears but could be shortened to Sula which is nice so if you love the name I'd be tempted to go with it. Nobody will universally love a name, pick what has most meaning to you. Different is good.

deckchairready · 03/01/2024 12:12

I like Sacha, Penelope on its own I don't like but could live with Penny or Nell as NN.
I really don't think Ursula could ever grow on me.

TheCountessofLocksley · 03/01/2024 14:00

Penelope - like it - especially shortened to Nell/Nelly. Penny is a late middle aged woman

Ferne - it's ok, not one I'd pick but not one I'd shudder at if I heard it.

Ursula - really really dislike

Sasha - I like it as a diminutive for Alexandra, but not standalone, prefer the sound of Saskia

Leah5678 · 03/01/2024 14:01

I love the name Ursula but it also makes me think of the evil mermaid

PickledScrump · 03/01/2024 14:24

Ursula will have the association of a big ugly sea witch for most people, the ur sound isn’t particularly nice and people add a sh sound in the middle which drives me mad.

all your other choices are lovely, Penelope has become very popular if that bothers you. We had ferne and Sasha on our list but ferne didn’t go with our surname and we went with Sasha for our pets name.

GallowwayGirl88 · 03/01/2024 14:25

Sasha is a dogs name.

Alloveragain3 · 03/01/2024 14:28

Penelope and Penny for short

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/01/2024 14:29

Ferne is beautiful. Ursula is hideous, just nope. Other two are just ok.

ellenpartridge · 03/01/2024 14:33

Sasha

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 03/01/2024 14:35

Penelope has some nice nicknames.
I like Sasha but dislike Ursula. Ferne is alright (prefer it with an e on the end)

Doublebiscuit77 · 03/01/2024 15:32

Penelope. Don't like Penny though.
Ursula is ok, don’t really like the others.

Lion1618 · 03/01/2024 23:51

I adore Ferne (although prefer the Fern spelling) and it was top of my list for a girl this time, but we had a little boy.
I think it's a much nicer alternative to the flowery nature names, without being too frilly or clunky.
Not a fan of Ursula or Penelope for those reasons, although Penny and Nell are lovely.
Sasha just doesn't have a nice sound to it in IMO. I know it's a hugely popular international name so I'm obviously in the minority with that opinion.

OctaviaRedQueen · 04/01/2024 07:53

In order of favourite:

Penelope
Sasha
Ferne

Whilst I don’t dislike Ursula in theory, I think she will be teased at school.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/01/2024 07:57

I really like Ursula! Sasha is nice. Don't mind Penelope, but don't like the shortening Penny. Not keen on Ferne, especially with the odd spelling.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 04/01/2024 07:58

Penelope is my favourite by far. It’s a very pretty name with good options for nicknames. Sasha is ok. I don’t like the other two at all.

everyredsock · 04/01/2024 08:04

I love Ursula. Different and packs a punch.
Sasha sounds like a posh boys name (internationally it's a male name).
Ferne / Fearne is a bit middle of the road but pretty.
Penelope is gorgeous but has other posters have pointed out it's the new Evie.

everyredsock · 04/01/2024 08:09

I take that back about Sasha. After a quick google it's a gender neutral name. It's just the only Sashas j've met have been wealthy young men.

theduchessofspork · 04/01/2024 08:14

Sasha - but I like it best as a shortening of Alexandra

I like Ursula, but it’s marmite

I don’t like Penny so wouldn’t go for Penelope unless you’re going to impose Nell. It’s getting quite popular

Fern is alright, quite popular

Awrite · 04/01/2024 08:15

Really like Fern (minus the e).

I used to like Sasha but I think I prefer it for a boy.

Quite like Penny. Not keen on Penelope though.

No to Ursula.

Sasha / Sacha is traditionally short for Alexander / Alexandra. Though I know a few female just Sashas born in the 70s

Holidayhell22 · 04/01/2024 08:17

Sasha.

username268 · 04/01/2024 20:15

Sasha is my favourite. It has a lovely meaning.

The only one I dislike strongly is Ursula.

girljulian · 04/01/2024 20:21

Ursula sounds like something that oozes out of your underwear when something’s badly wrong.

The others are ok.

DesertSnow · 04/01/2024 20:24

Sasha

Samzzz · 04/01/2024 21:34

ferne
