We really don’t have long left to go and it’s worrying me we haven’t picked a name.

Some names I have suggested that I love and she’s said no to are Knox, Sutton, Sullivan (my faves) Sawyer, Jonah, Bodhi, Asa, Eli, Cove, Holden.

She really likes Maddox which is alright but it doesn’t feel like the one. I know a lot of you on here aren’t a fan of River but that’s the only name we both love but I’m worried it’s getting really popular now and it’s putting me off.

Names we both kinda like are -
Cole, Rowen, Cohen, Parker, Zachary &
Cooper.

When we picked our daughter’s name we had it picked out for years and both absolutely loved it. I feel like we will end up just settling for our son’s name but I want to find something I love.

boys names are the hardest 🥲 help!

Jonah is so cute ! I love this the most

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/01/2024 19:58

Rowan is lovely.

SgtJuneAckland · 02/01/2024 19:59

Are you in the US? My cousin emigrated a few years ago and your list sounds like her DCs friends.
From your list I only like Zachary, Jude and Sebastian. If you want Kit you need to use the full Christopher with Kit as NN

SgtJuneAckland · 02/01/2024 20:00

Oh I also like Rowan! I know a lovely guy with that name man in his 40s

Thatswhy11 · 02/01/2024 20:06

I love Maddox my Son was going to be called that but my mum wasn't keen!
So he's called something else.

I love River, I'd have to pick Cove for the winner I like names that are a little different.

Wooloohooloo · 02/01/2024 20:11

Not keen on your choices but everyone has personal taste. The surname as first name thing is very Americanised and I don't really like it.

Out of the ones you both like, my favourites are:
River, Rowen & Zachary.

StampOnTheGround · 02/01/2024 20:21

I like River, Rowan and Zachary

What about Miles

TheCraicDealer · 02/01/2024 20:32

I usually hate surnames as first names but Sullivan is ok in my book purely because Sully is such a cute nn. It’s a pity your partner has discounted it but you should both at least like it.

If you like that vibe, have you considered Dawson? It was a boss of mine’s name and it really grew on me over time.

I think a lot of those Boho/nature names like River and Bohdi are very ‘early 2020’s’, but if you both love River then you should go for it.

motleymop · 02/01/2024 20:34

River or Zachary. I quite like Holden, but then I was very drawn to Holden Caulfield back in the day, so that's probably why!

DesertSnow · 02/01/2024 20:40

If you both like River, I'd go for that.

Logan?

Or you could take all the names you listed and you separately rank them. Then see what the common highest ranking name is

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/01/2024 20:43

Eli, Rowan or Zachary are my favourites. I know make and female Rowan's and love Zach as a name.

Timemysticaltime · 02/01/2024 20:49

wingsofabird · 02/01/2024 16:13

I love Sullivan, Eli and River @noaddedsugarx @Timemysticaltime
Rowan I prefer for a girl and know a few girls called Rowan. There's lots of baby boys called Roman with an M (name sprung from nowhere, in the top 30 names now and still rising fast) depends if that bothers you that there's potential for confusion and for the names Rowan/Roman to feel more overused and trendy than you may be expecting

Thank you wings! My DH loves Sullivan but I don't love it (though I do like it!) and am a bit worried to commit to it yet.

Agree with you on the Rowan/Roman point also. We like Ronan but think there could be a lot of similar names around when he's school age!

ReadtheReviews · 02/01/2024 21:03

I like River, especially for a boy. Sawyer also nice. Don't like the rest.

SheilaFentiman · 02/01/2024 21:11

I agree that avery and river are quite similar sounding. Would you consider other river/nature type names, since you like Rowan?

Brook
Fleet
Cranbourne
Tyburn
Hudson
Falcon

Hankthehonk · 03/01/2024 05:08

I can relate to the difficulty of choosing boy names - for our daughter, we were certain of her name very early on and even had another girl name locked in. I'm 32w pregnant with a boy and it's much harder for us!
Seems like you will likely go with River, which is great! When I saw that your daughter is Avery my first thought was actually that they sound nice together.
We have different tastes but I've also gravitated towards surnames as first names and been a bit bemused by all the negativity towards it on MN. There are quite a lot of surnames that are also common first names here in Scotland especially for boys. Many on our list could be either (Cameron, Fraser, Flynn - which is Irish, I know- Reid).

Theoldwoman · 03/01/2024 05:22

You certainly have a mix of surnames and Christian names, so hard to gage your style.

Go for River if it’s what you like! A few other suggestions below that feel like they might be similarish to some of your suggestions (and that I think fit nicely with Avery):

Avery and Luca
Avery and Logan
Avery and Ethan
Avery and Nico
Avery and Max
Avery and Rex

dontforgetme · 03/01/2024 17:26

Op I LOVE Cole.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 03/01/2024 17:39

They’re all awful except Rowan (with an a) and Zachary.

Would you, an adult male like to be called River? Sorry to be Debbie downer but I wouldn’t thank my parents for giving me an out there name. There are plenty of lovely, fairly unusual names to choose from without picking random surnames.

Some of the choices are astounding, I mean Boone?! Really? And Cohen is not at all appropriate as PP have pointed out.

babyonwayx · 03/01/2024 20:59

Sonnie / Sonny
Oakley
Rory
Brodie / Brody

I adore the name River.
