I am so stuck. I have girls' names galore, please give me nice slightly arty boys' names that won't get hugely popular in a year or two

What do you like apart from Magnus?

what name is nearly right but not quite?

Aitch · 17/03/2008 13:59

vincent, then. or... laurence. i've never met a horrible laurence. shortened to laurie, which is a Boys' Name.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 13:59

ARDEN
Arden is JUST right but I can't use it with my surname
and Sacha
Sacha is beautiful but we used it for ds's middle name and he says NO we can't use it again

Is Aidan too popular/Gaelic.

I know it's ridiculously popular in US.

What about Corbin?

I'm having a think about this one. L8a.

Ellbell · 17/03/2008 14:03

Laurie Lee? I had an Uncle Laurie who was a lovely person (and definitely not a girl).

Where do you stand on 'old men's names', like Albert, Walter, Fred, Sidney, Stanley, Alfred, etc.?

Ellbell · 17/03/2008 14:04

Madame... I loved Corbin when I was pg (vetoed by dh - and anyway I had two girls).

policywonk · 17/03/2008 14:05

Haven't read whole threwad, but ...

Taran
Jago

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:05

I like the resurgence of old men's names in theory but don't want to use one
ds has a friend called Corbin, agree it is cool

Idobelieveinfairies · 17/03/2008 14:05

Declan
Keenan

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:06

policywonk · 17/03/2008 14:07

I didn't put that much work into my own sons' names...

sorkycake · 17/03/2008 14:07

Franny I'm going to watch this thred and pick my way through for next time.

Love Corbin btw

How about Cole or Rohan?

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:08

What about Auden, as in WH Auden, the stop all the clocks geezer. NOw that's arty.

Or Brendan? Has some of the sound of Arden, but none of the artyness. I like Brendan, it's the Brandons, Braidens etc that make me wince.

I love old man names, but not the obvious ones. Arthur, nah, too 'of the moment'. I love Victor, Gilbert, Wilfred..

And in a less daring way, I love Richie for being a classic alternative to Archie, and for the hundreth time, would somebody somewhere please name their child Victor? What is wrong wiht you all, I would call my son Victor if I hadn't already named him?

sorkycake · 17/03/2008 14:09

Rocco is a fav of mine

sorkycake · 17/03/2008 14:10

Dh likes Holden

Rowingboat · 17/03/2008 14:13

Arlo is growing on me. I do feel a bit sorry for his brother Ackney though - but at least he is easily spotted.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:14

we can't really have an 'en' or 'on' ending name, except for, apparently, Lucien (surname issues)

OP posts:
sorkycake · 17/03/2008 14:15

Hmm should it be short or long then?

Idobelieveinfairies · 17/03/2008 14:16

Harley
Cole

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:18

yes, short or long

OP posts:
totalmisfit · 17/03/2008 14:20

Indiana.

dp's fave. I'm not convinced.

totalmisfit · 17/03/2008 14:21

but he also says 'we could shorten it to Indie'

Now that's arty!
