My partner and I are both stuck on two very different baby names for our little boy due anytime now….. we originally liked Harris (we live in Scotland) but I was put off by the increasing popularity here however my family loved it. The other name is Frankie which we both love and think suits us. My partner is quite a trendy guy and sees his little boy already as a mini him. Frankie however is getting mixed reviews from my family and my mum seems to have suggested every other name under the sun😂 is Frankie really so terrible and is Harris a better choice? His middle name will be John and surname begins with F.

If you and DP both like Frankie then that's all that matters.

Ternbeach · 19/12/2023 18:28

Frankie is very popular where I am, if that bothers you. 3 in DC’s class. I’m not in Scotland though (south east England) and it probably is location dependent. I do love the name and wouldn’t say it’s out there at all, I’m sure your family would get used to it.

Scarlet96 · 19/12/2023 18:41

Thank you. Frankie really isn’t popular where I am at all - my mum just seems to associate the name with older men in tv programmes she’s seen but I’m sure will come around in time😅

Stop discussing names with anyone till he's born. See what he looks like then announce it.

Anyone rude enough to voice a negative opinion after that can sod off. End of.

Good luck!

Ternbeach · 19/12/2023 19:35

I may just live in a weird pocket of popularity too! Yeah I’m sure my mum would too, even though it’s definitely used for younger generations now. In the nicest possible way I’d just ignore her opinions as they’ll likely be very different to yours!

NuffSaidSam · 19/12/2023 19:39

Harris to me means arse, so I definitely prefer Frankie!

I'd probably use Frank or Franklin or Frances rather than Frankie for his proper name though.

But if you love it, use it. Ignore your mum, she got to choose your name.

AtillaTheHon · 19/12/2023 19:44

None of their business and whatever you choose, they will grow to love it I guarantee you! My friend at work was very snooty about her grandchild's name but now loves it.

Frankie is cute. I also love Harris tbh - why don't you wait and see what he looks like? We did this and honest to God my son just came out looking like his name - he is SUCH a his name 😂. Even the surgeon who delivered him and the nurse who looked after him when he was in NICU said the same

WashItTomorrow · 19/12/2023 19:46

Harris is fine. Frankie isn’t.

Torganer · 19/12/2023 19:52

Frankie is lovely. I know two girls and one boy (all under 2) with that name. Don’t discuss names with anyone apart from your husband!! I think our families would have definitely tried to put us off our name choice, but now they can’t imagine anything else!!

abcdefghijkI · 19/12/2023 19:57

Tbf I prefer Harris over Frankie too, but I think you shouldn't actually discuss the name choice with your mum. It should be something just between you and your partner.

Riverlee · 19/12/2023 20:05

Number one rule - don’t discuss names! Your baby, your choice.

Harrison with nn Harris?

resm · 19/12/2023 21:14

Frankie is a great name! My cousin is Frankie with an F surname and it really rolls off the tongue.

Francis and Harris are very similar sounds anyway so maybe that could be the compromise, Francis on the birth certificate with Frankie as the diminutive?

theduchessofspork · 19/12/2023 21:24

Frankie is v fashionable in lots of places.

I like it but I think Francis, Franklin or even just Frank is better on the birth cert. Frankie is sweet as a nn but too cutesy as a full name.

RuthW · 19/12/2023 21:40

Harris, francis or Franklin is lovely. Frankie as a full name isn't

user1492757084 · 20/12/2023 04:04

Frankie is a nick name. And it is childish.

You can use that nick name for any other name.
Harris John Frank FXXXX - Harry or Frankie
Francis John FXXXX - Frank
Would you like your partner to be called Frankie?
Try calling a grown man that and see if you like saying, hearing and writing Frankie.

Sholkedabemus · 20/12/2023 04:10

It’s entirely up to parents to name their child. Do not discuss this with your family.

I like Francis, with Frankie as a nickname.

NotFastButFurious · 20/12/2023 07:04

I much prefer Harris and it’s more classically Scottish.
the only Frankie’s I know are women who shorten Francesca. With a surname beginning with F he could sound like a cartoon character.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 20/12/2023 23:29

I would choose Harrison.
