Next generation ‘trendy’ names

Is it just me or do others think that names like Christopher, Timothy, Philip and Peter are starting so sound really fresh and also quite adorable for our boys? The next generation of popular names for say in 10 years time? Will Timothy replace Theodore?

Only problem is I don’t like their shortenings: Chris, Tim, Phil etc, which is likely what they would be - just a little premature to start using these for my tastes.

I LOVE Philippe but would this be really inappropriate for a boy without French heritage (there is German, Dutch and Danish but Phillip/Philip tends to be used).

Bit too early.

Think we have Geoffrey, Derek, Brenda, Eileen, Barbara to go though first.

ScruffMuffin · 16/12/2023 13:10

I know a little Kevin.

WashItTomorrow · 16/12/2023 18:48

I think these names are already coming back. I know a few babies and toddlers called these types of names.

SallyWD · 16/12/2023 19:10

I agree. I've always loved the bane Timothy and also like Tim and Timmy.

ForeverYellow · 16/12/2023 19:20

Ds is 8 and has one of the names listed in the original post . I love it . Everyone has heard of it , but he is the only one in his school .

herewegoroundtheblueberrybush · 16/12/2023 19:29

People saying it's too soon are the people who are still calling their kid Arlo and Luca and thinking it's original.

Of course classic names like Timothy, Peter, Christopher, Philip, Adam, Paul, Richard, Michael, Mark, Stephen, Gregory will come back in. I already know a few babies with these names.

Jeffrey? Gerald/Jerry? Malcolm? I can see that.

Names like Barry, Alan, Gary, Ian, Leslie, Daryl, Ken, Keith I'm less sure.

ILookAtTheFloor · 16/12/2023 19:57

I genuinely wanted to resurrect the name Malcolm for 4 month old DS. Obviously DH wasn't on board 😂 I love these type of names.

Baby Malc 😁 he'd be the only one at his school, possibly university too😂.

Also love and suggested Peter, also not a goer for DH.

I do know a baby Neil and a baby Kevin

Now - what about Philippe for a non-French boy 🤔 I can’t do it can I!?

No you can't 😄 HTH

Devilsmommy · 16/12/2023 20:58

Well you could but he'd probably end up hating you for it🤣

herewegoroundtheblueberrybush · 16/12/2023 21:00

"Aw what's your baby's name?"
"Phillipe"
"Phillip? That's sweet"
"No it's Phillipe"
"Oh great, you're French?"
"No..."
"Ah it's a family link is it?"
"Um..."

Repeat until you die

Filip, Philip(Danish) Filip, Philip, Filippus, Flip(Dutch)
But the poor kid would spend his life spelling it out, and that really starts to grate by your thirties, I'm told.

No, but ds2 was a whisper away from being called Etienne. Kind of wish I'd have just gone for it!

Strikeback · 16/12/2023 21:15

I can't wait for Brenda to make a comeback!
