For me,

Eleanor is ELL-en-uh
Elena is e-LAY-nuh

So yes, different.

The Elena I know is Eastern European and pronounces it Eh-leh-na with emphasis on the first syllable.

Well I certainly do but I have an American accent.

Well it’s how ever the person wants it pronounced. Makes little difference how we all say it if the owner of the name wants it done differently.

My DS is seeing an Eleanor. She’s got a different accent and says her name differently to how it’s pronounced here. I always end up saying it twice in my head with both a “nor” or a “ nah”.

I know at least 3 different ways to pronounce Helena. The one I grew up with (German) was "Huh-lee-nuh" .

Elena: any of EE-lay-nuh, El-LAY-nuh, AY-lay-nuh, Ella-nuh.
Eleanor is only ever EL-uh-nor. The R firmly actually pronounced. There is no R in Elena so of course it can't be said the same.

Elena in The Netherlands/Germany is the same as Eleanor in the UK. Different spelling for essentially the same name.
