Good point. The Isaiah I know goes by ‘Zay’ which is quite cool.

I previously said I liked Francis but hadn't thought about it being shortened to Frank. That turns it to a no for me (also can't believe this poster thinks Wilf is a good nickname).

Leaving only Isaiah or Jago as options for me.

Honestly Wilfred, Wilbur and Edwin are all the kind of names I'd jokingly use when playing with kids as horrible, funny names. And if you told me your Son was called Maxim I'd have to stop myself making a joke about it being 'a statement name' (unless you and your family are actually from another country where it's a normal name).

Personally I like the name Jago out of them all. It’s different and would be difficult for anyone to mispronounce lol
I have 5 children. My boys are Eden, Marley and Arlo & my girls are Ella and Nevaeh. The amount of times people have mispronounced my daughter Nevaeh’s name is crazy! It’s pronounced Na-vay-ah (sorry that’s the best way I can describe it lol) but it’s often mispronounced as Niamh/Neave. Super frustrating having to correct people all the time 😜
Ive never been one to choose, what I call, ‘old fashioned names’ for example my nephews are named Arthur & Henry but it’s a personal preference and it’s what you like at the end of the day.
On a separate note, the middle names for all my children are sentimental in some way and mean something special to me. I don’t have a middle name myself so I wanted to give all of my children unique or meaningful middle names.

Jago is cornish and the Cornish(-speaking) pronunciation is probably Jag-o not Jaygo. Welsh Iago is Yagg-oh.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 22/11/2023 08:20

Isaiah is pronounced ‘eye-zay-uh’. Only in the UK does it seem to be pronounced ‘eyez-eye-uh’ but we aren’t in the UK so will be pronouncing it the former way (which is actually the original way).

To my knowledge (half-Cornish husband) it's Jay-go.

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/11/2023 08:40

Does your husband speak Cornish?

My post was re. this: It’s different and would be difficult for anyone to mispronounce lol

TheBirdintheCave · 22/11/2023 08:48

@MerryChristmasToYou No, but he spent a fair amount of time in Cornwall as a child with his mum when they visited her family so knew a lot of people with Cornish names.

Personally, spelt as it is, I think it would only be mispronounced by people from the US/Mexico or Spain who might say 'YAH-go' or 'YAY-go'.

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/11/2023 08:51

I'd say it as Jaygo, but if I was not familiar with it I might think Yah-go. Spanish pronunciation of it would be more Hah-goh (spanish J not H)

Great list, prefer Edwin.

If you like Seth and Edwin, Swithin might work for you.

anicecuppateaa · 22/11/2023 18:13

Love Edwin.

FMLife · 22/11/2023 18:24

All of these are terrible. Maxim?? Do you not have Maxim magazine in the UK??? Look that up. James. James as a first name is perfect. But for the love of god don’t call him Jamie. Ugh. No woman wants to date a Jamie. Jamie is not a provider, Jamie is a toddler. Go with James and call him James.

SiennaMillar · 22/11/2023 18:26

Seth is a red neck, hillbilly name imho.
Wilfred is nice NN Freddie

TenThousandSpoons · 22/11/2023 18:31

I absolutely LOVE Jago! I met one in 1999 and never met another one since.

dressedforcomfort · 22/11/2023 18:31

I love Seth. Not keen on the others.

NotFastButFurious · 22/11/2023 18:52

Tabitha and Wilfred is great!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/11/2023 23:10

Maxim is gorgeous - uncommon with an elegant, international feel (but he can always be simple, popular Max if he prefers).

Second choice is retro Wilfred - it's rising in popularity again now but has a nice sound and variety of nn choices..

3rd choice Seth - simple and well known but not that common.

All 3 work well with Tabitha imo - I do love cool Jago too but think you should stick with James as a middle name instead if it has family meaning. You could consider similar sounding Ivo instead of Jago?

Not so keen on your other choices sorry - just not my cup of tea (find Edwin and Wilbur a bit geeky, Moses and Isaiah too strongly religious sounding, and not keen on the diminutives for Francis).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/11/2023 23:16

Oh - and am aware Seth is Biblical, it just doesn't sound as strongly so as Moses and Isaiah to me for some reason 😆
