How to officially register Megan Rose

We've recently welcomed our little girl into the world and need to register her name officially soon. Would you register Megan as her first name and Rose as her middle name or write Megan-Rose as the first name with no middle name? If the latter, would you need to write the hyphen?

Hyphens are very tacky, and a class signifier (if that bothers you). I absolutely wouldn’t hyphenate it, she won’t thank you as an adult.

Rose is much nicer as a middle name only but if you want to use Rose daily then the first name should be Megan Rose. But that will also be a PITA for her and you can expect that correspondence etc will always be wrong and leave out Rose.

Either way around it is problematic.

Agree with this.

There are 5 children with hyphenated names in my current class. Not one of them goes by the full name - they all just use the first name. They’re only 5.

But if you want people to call her Megan-Rose as 1 first name, you’ll need to hyphenate it, otherwise people will just assume Rose is the middle name.

I wouldn't hyphenate. It looks and sounds tacky as one name. Rose as a middle name is much nicer.

I would also just call her Megan. You will find that even if you do hyphenate the Rose will be dropped anyway as they're two separate names as it is.

Whether you call Megan-Rose or Megan Rose (middle name) she will probably end up being called Megan. Therfore I would just make her life simpler and call her Megan Rose. You can try to make it stick for as.long as possible.

Megan Rose Surname.

You can call her Megan Rose often and introduce her as such but her first name will be Megan and her second will be Rose and she will never be bothered with the hyphen.

Think of the Queen's sister.
Margaret Rose - often referred to as that when young but no hyphen.

It'll be shortened by everyone even further from Megan to Meg.

Even if she introduces herself as Megan and prefers Meg, people will still just default to Meg.

I speak from experience!

It's super common atm and dilutes Megan

Agree with this. Almost every girl has Rose as a middle name or hyphenated.

Megan Rose doesn’t flow well enough to be hyphenated and to be honest it’s a mouthful. She’ll end up being Megan or Meg. Tbh I really like Meg.

There's a little girl in my daughter's class called Daphne Rose, I'm not sure if it's hyphenated as I've never seen it written down but everyone always uses her full name. It's never shortened. If someone tries she corrects them.
Basically if you want to call her by both names, call her by both. It's a lovely name. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I think the consensus here is no hyphen for sure! We'll register her as Megan Rose as a first name and hope it sticks as a whole name. If it doesn't then oh well, we still love Megan on its own as well.

My Megan hasn't been shortened. In fact, it got extended at school to Megatron! 😂

Don't give her two first names, it will cause her all sorts of administrative hassle as an adult. Make it officially Megan (first name) Rose (middle name) - call her both if you want and see if it sticks
