Makes me think of the pop idol 'Baby hit me one more time' guy...

Aero · 11/03/2008 21:09

It does make me think of the pop idol chap too, but I do like the name and it's certainly not over-used.

Beauregard · 11/03/2008 21:10

"Give me a siggghhhnnnnn.........hit me .......bab...y one moreeeeeeeee tiiiiiiimmmeeeee, yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh"

nkf · 11/03/2008 21:13

I think of the Persian King. I like it but I think I'm probably in a minority.

goblinvalley · 11/03/2008 21:14

dizzydixies · 11/03/2008 21:14

My first bf - when I was 9 - from Iran and very cute. I still have a picture of him and he looks so sweet, but sooooo young. Did not realise the Persian link until recently. I do like it because I remember it with fond memories.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 11/03/2008 21:45

darius guppy

saadia · 11/03/2008 21:47

I've never liked it, can't really pinpoint why.

branflake81 · 12/03/2008 07:35

Makes me think of the Bible. Not that that's a bad thing...but didn't Darius throw Daniel in the lions' den?

shabster · 12/03/2008 07:50

makes me think of Darius Vassell who plays for Manchester City - I hold my hands up and confess to being a fan.

His tho is pronounced (see if I can do this) da - rye - us

2sugars · 12/03/2008 07:54

Sorry, don't like it. Smacks of gobby mum in Tesco shouting it out. Besides, I think it's the outdated equivalent of anyone naming their son Brian. And I know of two in Y5. Perhaps its enjoying a resurgance.

slinkiemalinki · 16/03/2008 20:46

Makes me think of the Iranian ambassador in Spooks (I guess chosen there for Persian link). Which is a better association than Pop Idol Darius! If you've got cultural reasons for choosing it I think it would be a nice choice.

furrycat · 16/03/2008 20:49

Do you really want to name your child after the Watford centre-forward, especially now he's missed two penaltes in a week?

BarcodeZebra · 17/03/2008 22:39

Excellent historical associations for Darius. I had the pop idol chap come to my bookshop for a signing some years ago. I was expecting him to be a total dick but he was absolutley charming: courteous to all of my staff; and fantastically patient and very sweet with all of his fans. He had lots of time for everyone. I was very impressed. You could do worse.

MarmiteMe · 17/03/2008 22:44

No I don't like it at all.
What about Cyrus?

LaPaz · 18/03/2008 17:25

I think it's a great name -- really strong, and the equivalent of William or Edward in Persian (ie a King's name and commonly used in Iran). I also associate it with someone at university who had that name and was really clever.

Cyrus is also good if you want something Persian -- that's another King I think. But I do think you need the right surname to carry both those names off - Darius Boggins or whatever isn't really quite right...

Aliway · 18/03/2008 19:29

Cyrus has unfavourable connotations for me of a hirsute Greek guy I went to school with Darius is still the forerunner in the boys names stakes

Darius's younger brother is called Cyrus. How sad am I for knowing that?

Both lovely names though.
