I never thought choosing a girls name would be so difficult! We have chosen a boys name but are really struggling to decide on a girls!

We like the idea of a flexible name that can be shortened so here goes with a list for you all to scrutinise!

Jessica (Jess/Jessie)
Tallulah (Tally/Lulu)
Matilda (Tilly)
Delilah (Lila)
Sasha (Sash)
Yasmine (Yas)
Roxanne (Roxy)

Possible middle names will be:

Mary
May
Jane
June
Rose

Ok, opinions please, don't be shy!

what about tilda or darcie then?

Lennsuey · 13/03/2008 12:15

My cousin has just had a girl and named her D'arcy so that one is out! Bit of an unusual spelling i know!

Goodness me, let's hope we have a boy!

each to their own I suppose!!

I've run out of suggestions now I think sorry!

whats the boys name you've picked?

sweetkitty · 13/03/2008 12:22

(SK skulks into another girls name thread and waves to dizzy)

dizzydixies · 13/03/2008 12:24

no no no - sweetkitty - you are banned

have thought of another one

nicola/nicole - nico

Lennsuey · 13/03/2008 12:24

Thanks for all your suggestions dizzydixies!

If it's a boy the likely choice will be either Frederick (Freddie/Fred) or Oscar.

BTW we also really like Lola but we're a bit worried it's a 'now' name and also very popular.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 13/03/2008 12:27

my friend has a lola and she is lovely but I know what you mean about it being 'now'

you could have delores/lolita for lola?

I wouldn't worry about popularity to be honest, we have Ella and everyone on here goes on and on about how many there are, have never met one other than mine and wouldn't care if I did as she very much makes it her own

you're boys names are great too

Lennsuey · 13/03/2008 12:36

Yeah did think of Delores but it means 'Sorrowful'!!! Think Lolita is a bit too resque.

Ella is lovely by the way.

Risque sorry!

dizzydixies · 13/03/2008 12:40

thank you she certainly likes it and makes sure everyone knows her name whether or not they want to lol

smartiejake · 13/03/2008 13:04

What about Madeleine Rose?

Hulababy · 13/03/2008 13:16

What about Martha (another fave of mine). It probably isn't shortnened I know, but Martha Rose Tovey would work I feel.

I don't think Tilly Tovey is too bad actually, and think Matilda Tovey works perfectly well.

Lennsuey · 13/03/2008 18:37

Hmm, not so keen on Martha, but i'm glad you've said that Hulababy, i don't feel quite so crazy now! Matilda is a sweet name

Just seen this thread. Mattia is an Italian boys name!!! My husband is Italian and chose Mattia Thomas for our 15 month old boy. Just about to have a girl and am thinking of Tallulah Noemi. When I mention Tallulah to anyone I get funny looks - not that that bothers me too much!!!

dizzydixies · 14/03/2008 21:40

mattia and mattea can also be used for girls, its hebrew for 'gift from god' as well as italian - probably more commonly used as a boys name in italy but I still think it makes a nice name for girl too?

Lennsuey · 17/03/2008 11:13

Damn, DH has ruled out Matilda over the weekend , his favourite is still Tallulah! You are brave sophiebbb to mention the name to people, i haven't as I know it will raise a few eyebrows!

TillyScoutsmum · 17/03/2008 11:23

Damn your dh ! Matilda is a great name (not biased or anything)

Also love Tabitha (Tab, Tabsy, Beth)
Amelie/a (Millie)
Elizabeth (Libby, Beth etc)
Harriet (Hattie)

lofty66 · 17/03/2008 13:32

What about Emmelene...saw a quiz show on the telly the other night with a lady called this, thought it was a nice name.

Shorten to Em, Mel, Lene, Leny!!!!

Lennsuey · 20/03/2008 14:02

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

I think the favourites have been narrowed down to Jessica, Tallulah or Lola. We are still deliberating whether to have a middle name or not!

What about Tamsin?

Expelliarmum · 20/03/2008 17:39

Tamzin! A 'Z' makes all the difference!! Tam for short. (My brother calls me Niz!)

MrsMattie · 20/03/2008 17:43

Jessica - Meh. Vanilla.
Tallulah - Not keen.
Matilda - nice name, hate Tilly as a nickname though - Twee, sugary, horrid little name. How about Mattie?
Delilah - not keen. Lila on it's own is pretty.
Sasha (Sash) - Hate it.
Yasmine (Yas) - Yasmin is a beautiful name. Yasmine/Yasmeen, not so keen.
Roxanne (Roxy) - cute.
