To go with our trendy favourite or a more classic choice?

We just can’t decide and this is our final list, we don’t have much time left:

Chloe
Sophie
Rosalind
Phoebe
Emily
Ruby
Everly

Everly or Everlee is our favourite right now. It doesn’t fit my usual style, but I love the sound and Everlee looks more like Ever + Lee than surname to me.

Not sure if we should go with what our heart tells us to or a more classic name.

I think it depends on your class background to some extent. Everlee very much sounds like a working class name - absolutely nothing wrong with that if you’re from a working class background but if you’re middle class she might start to feel self-conscious about it and dislike it as she gets older. The others sound either middle class or classless.

Everly is awful however you spell it and I wouldn’t saddle a child with that name.

but just my opinion.

SurreyisSunny · 14/11/2023 19:34

Go with whatever your heart says however do spell it correctly eg Everly

My mum has spent her whole life spelling her name.

oh and if you go with Everly make sure you like the Everly brothers music as it will be mentioned a lot!!

fancyfrogs · 14/11/2023 19:50

I like Phoebe, Ruby and Everly. I don't like the Everlee spelling at all though

beyourownchampion · 14/11/2023 20:50

Of all the gorgeous girls names out there… you choose Everly? This is going to be the ‘Tracey’ equivalent of the 70s. Don’t do it!! Go for a classic name that won’t date.
plus Everly is becoming so popular right now, it’s like the new Emily.
Go with any of your other choices! Pleeaasseeee …. Your daughter will thank you for it I’m sure.

Rockmehardplace · 14/11/2023 22:14

Ruby

I'm really sorry but I don't like any of them that much. Sophie Chloe and Emily are pleasant enough and very popular names but tooo many of them. Rosalind and Phoebe I just don't like, Ruby is ok but has the potential to become dated, and I'm just not struck on Everly (definitely not Everlee though). But to be honest it's not my baby so my opinion really doesn't matter. You should choose the name you want 🙂 Congratulations! x

I'd pick Emily from your list. It's pretty and classic name and not hugely overused IMO.

Cupofteaandpacketofbiscuits · 14/11/2023 23:07

Also bear in mind that if Everly is your trendy favourite right now, could that be prone to changing as your tastes change over the years? I know of a few Everly's and actually I do think it a pretty name but could it become a short-lived favourite, that you like it because it's floating around now, in its heyday, but give it a few years and the moment will have passed?

Amumof287 · 14/11/2023 23:12

Everly is lovely. I know a little everly, it doesn’t get shortened. Everyone knows that’s her name and doesn’t get confused thinking it’s “Emily”. It’s a beautiful name and not so uncommon to confuse anyone. my daughter is Cora, the only Cora in her school and I know lots of people don’t like it but I do. Go with your gut

AllstarFacilier · 15/11/2023 07:28

I think Everly is fine, not sure if you mean you’d do it Ever Lee though, I def wouldn’t do that.

AuntBeef · 15/11/2023 07:33

I don't like Everly, but if you love it, use it 🤷‍♀️

I'd choose Sophie or Phoebe from your list❤️

I'm afraid this is how I feel. It's a surname, or it sounds as if someone's trying to make up some kind of folk etymology for it with 'ever'- I agree very much with the PP who said you may be just very taken with a trend and fall out of love with it later on. Names are a gift to a child that is supposed to last for life. Think durable. Everly seems to me to be the naming equivalent of planned obsolescence.

Your others are all nice. Sophie is brilliant, though very popular. Rosalind is my other favourite. I like Chloe and Phoebe too - they were both quite popular 20-30 years ago but have fallen somewhat out of favour since, so she probably wouldn't encounter too many of them.

ClairDeLaLune · 15/11/2023 08:41

Please don’t call your baby Everly. It’s a surname. It’s the Everly brothers. And she’d always be having to spell it.

All your other choices are lovely, please pick one of those instead.

Ruthdpl · 15/11/2023 09:28

I love Rosalind - mainly because it’s a beautiful name from Shakespeare.

Heidi75 · 15/11/2023 12:54

I think you just have to go with what you love, it's no one else's business or choice. I personally don't like Everlee/Everly/Everleigh, it comes across to me as either a surname or a bit chavvy (sorry just my personal opinion) Of all the others Rosalind would be my favourite as the others are quite common and the potential of having 5 others in the class very high. At the end of the day though it is your choice and anyone else's opinion is irrelevant.
