Thoughts?
Hugo and George
Sterling (spelled this way) and Montague

I see all the time on here people saying that the true upper class name their kids traditional names like William, James etc, but then see actual aristocracy with names like Peregrine (I.e. Viscount Peregrine Pearson) and wonder if we’re all wrong!

Disclaimer: all a bit of fun!

Other than Unity, the names aren't, though.

Look up a few aristocrats and look at their names or their children's names. Their children tend to have completely normal names.

@Sunflowers1999 you dont necessarily need to have a Peregrine or an Octavia, names like George, Charlie, Freddie can be just as public school.

They may have been referring to the sister, Nancy Mitford, who was born in London, not Unity Mitford @FilthyRich - her books will have a lot of names to choose from.

FilthyRich · 07/11/2023 07:49

@Cressie2 , like Alfred, Albert, Sophia, Harvey, Frances, Victoria, Sadie, Louisa, Emily, Josh, ...

I like Jemima and Arabella.

There is a mix of handed down family names, Biblical names, poetic names and flamboyant names - just like other social groups, I imagine.

Though possibly fewer made up names like Nevaeh because, I assume, a higher level of education and spelling acumen .

DH went to boarding school with a Tuppence and a Fenella but beyond that they all had fairly normal names

I recall seeing a post asking for opinions on Araminta to which someone replied saying they'd assume Araminta was terribly posh, but I'd assume Araminta's parents were trying to seem posh whereas Lucy and Emily genuinely are posh. It's a thing.

Jessbow · 08/11/2023 23:20

Mungo would have to be posh
