Victoria and Albert?

pizzanoodle · 31/10/2023 20:38

Hello!

We are expecting a baby boy and is trying to decide on a name.

One of the choices is Albert which we both love as a name.

The slight complication is that our beloved daughter is named Victoria.

What do you think about the association with V&A (Victoria and Albert museum)?

Is it crazy to name him Albert in this case?

Opinions much appreciated!

It would make me think of Queen Victoria and her husband, yes. Both nice names though.

HoHoHoliday · 31/10/2023 20:40

I don't think there is anything wrong with using the two together, it's not crazy, and they are both lovely classic names. But I do also think you can expect a lifetime of comments and questions about whether you are royal fans. If the comments would bother you then choose another name, otherwise go for it!

Businessflake · 31/10/2023 20:41

I don’t think you need to be concerned that people will immediately think of the museum.

HiCandles · 31/10/2023 20:43

I would immediately think of the Queen and her husband rather than the museum. I might smile to myself and ask if you loved the royals if I knew you would enough but I don't think that's really enough to stop you doing it if you love the names.

Gnomegnomegnome · 31/10/2023 20:44

I like it! You could use Albie as a nickname?

wideawakeinthemiddleofthenightagain · 31/10/2023 20:47

I think I'd wonder if you were aware of Queen Victoria and her husband. It's the same when you hear anyone with a sibling set who have got names of a famous pairing whether that's Thelma & Louise, the Kray twins or something like this

Bobbybobbins · 31/10/2023 20:53

It might partly depend on whether you generally use the full names day to day or nicknames.

UsingChangeofName · 31/10/2023 20:56

I would immediately think of the Queen and her husband if you introduced me to 'Victoria and Albert', but I agree with this

Plus, isn't your dd called Vicky a lot of the time ?
Potentially won't your ds be referred to as Bert / Bertie / Albie ?

All of which takes away the association which isn't a bad one and would make me smile rather than laugh .

“My dearest, dearest Albert”

That’s what I think of when I see Victoria and Albert together… A Queen who is hopelessly in love with her husband - definitely not siblings, but maybe that’s just me and not many people will make the association

FWIW, they are both beautiful names.

BoleynMemories13 · 31/10/2023 20:58

Personally I wouldn't, as I think the link to Queen Victoria and her husband is so strong when the two names are said as a pair. I'd think the same if I heard of a George and Charlotte combination, or William and Catherine, William and Harry, Harry and Meghan etc. There are some combinations that instantly draw you to a famous pair, so don't be surprised if you get regular comments if you do go for it.

However, there's nothing wrong with it if that's all you agree on. It's totally up to you whether comments would bother you or not.

Needmorelego · 31/10/2023 21:01

As soon as I read the thread title I had the "Al and Vic" song from Horrible Histories in my head.
Which is one of the best Horrible Histories songs....but as names for siblings - it doesn't work.
Sorry.

Libraryloiterer · 31/10/2023 21:03

'Prince Albert' is a penis piercing. That wouldn't ordinarily come to mind when meeting a random kid called Albert (I know a few) but with a sister named Victoria it is more likely to be mentioned I would have thought. I might also assume the parents were crazy royalists (which is even more worrying in my book!).

TheYear2000 · 31/10/2023 21:04

Yeah, sorry I think it's a bit weird to name your second child Albert when first one is Victoria. Naming siblings after a famous couple seems a bit odd to me?

GoodVibesHere · 31/10/2023 21:09

I would immediately think of Queen Victoria and her husband Albert, as would 99.99% of the population.

It would be a bit like naming your children Charles and Diana.

I think you need to go back to scratch on your baby boy's name. There are lots of nice names for you to choose from.

Vexxa · 31/10/2023 21:09

All 3 of my children have names which have been used by the British royal family (not on purpose, we just like classic names!) but even I think this would be too much!

How about Alfred, Bertram or Benedict?

Mouthfulofquiz · 31/10/2023 21:11

Yeah… this would be weird!

Fannyannie · 31/10/2023 21:12

Both lovely names.

What about Arthur instead. Or Rupert. If you are worried about the association.

I agree!! Wink

SpongeBobSquarePantaloons · 31/10/2023 21:28

I would assume you are die hard royalists naming your children after monarchs lol

whatausername · 31/10/2023 21:37

I immediately think of the very famous historical couple and her well-documented devastation and heartbreak when she was widowed.

BirthdayFlower · 31/10/2023 21:43

Honestly? I think I’d assume you were some sort of royal nut and that you’d done if deliberately. Please don’t do this, plenty of other names out there.

I don’t know why you’re worried about the association with the museum rather than the people my the museum is named after.

DaisyMaisyFaisy · 31/10/2023 22:01

I think it depends of whether your daughter is known as Vicky or not. Vicky and Bertie wouldn’t make me think of royalty, but Victoria and Albert would

Startyabastard · 31/10/2023 22:02

I love the name Victoria.

theduchessofspork · 31/10/2023 22:06

It’s very weird - they were a famously amorous couple (9 kids) so as sibling names… no.

Yup... and their famously passionate sexual relationship. Her comment about 'oh...no more fun in bed' when her doctor advised her that another pregnancy would be harmful to her health.

Don't. Do. It.
