Stuck on boys name

Piapea · 29/10/2023 14:01

My first litte boy is due next week and we have not managed to come up with a winner yet. We have Welsh and Irish backgrounds but live in the south of England, so this is influencing our decision.

Names we like:
Lewis
Noah
Cormac
Finn
Fionn (Fyun)
Raphael (Raph-ee-al or Raph-eye-el)
Rufus
Griff
Keir
Roscoe
Jude

Opinions welcome :)

Noah is wayy too popular, especially in the south of England. Pity, as it’s a lovely name, but definitely over done. Rufus reminds me of a dog. Apart from those two, I like your list.

oldnorsesaga · 29/10/2023 14:13

I like Lewis, Cormac, Finn, Rufus and Roscoe.
I'm not keen on Griff, but love Griffin, and like Keir, just think it's too short. I would pronounce Raphael Raph-uh-el.

My favorite would be Griffin, but if that's not the option I vote for Roscoe or Rufus.

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/10/2023 17:08

Lewis - ok
Noah - overused
Cormac - fine
Finn - popular if you include Finley/Finlay
Fionn (Fyun) - too close to Ffion
Raphael (Raph-ee-al or Raph-eye-el) - no
Rufus - not keen
Griff - fine
Keir - yes
Roscoe - prefer just Ross
Jude - not keen

Rhys
blair
griffin

I absolutely love Finn and Jude - not overly common but still mainstream enough that he won’t have issues with spelling or pronunciation.
Noah + Lewis are nice but everywhere these days
Griff, Keir and Roscoe - not a fan at all, where we are these would all be purely surnames (N. Ireland)
Rufus - awful, a dog name
Cormac, Fionn, Raphael - not bad but not great. Fionn is nice but if you’re living in England would be constantly mispronounced. Love the nickname Rafa for Raphael

Not on your list:
Conor - love this for it’s Irish roots
Sebastian
Reuben
Lorcan - another Irish one

Whatisityoucantface · 29/10/2023 19:04

Cormac is class! I like the Lorcan suggestion too. Welsh names I really like are Emlyn, Macsen and Emrys

supernoodletrain · 29/10/2023 19:23

I really like Cormac! Familiar but quite unusual

theduchessofspork · 29/10/2023 19:41

Griffin or Rufus

Lewis - too many Louis / confusing
Noah - lovely but way overdone
Cormac - half like it / half think it sounds like a kitchen brand name
Finn - way overdone
Fionn (Fyun) - I really like it but the Welsh girl’s name Ffion is much more popular in England than this, which might cause confusion
Raphael (Raph-ee-al or Raph-eye-el) nice, it’s usually the second pronunciation I think - you need to like Raff
Rufus - v nice
Griff - love it if short for Griffin
Keir - Starmer, No.
Roscoe - no. Sounds like a Darts player from the 80s
Jude - like it but has suddenly got b popular

Other ideas -

Idris
Gawain
Kester
Struan
Rafe
Jerome
Jonah
Cathal
Patrick
