1 like Van Halen

Yes, I agree with this. To be the second pronunciation it needs to LLs

Thirded.

Mystro202 · 23/10/2023 16:05

It looks like the Irish name "Caolán" which is pronounced like Kaylin in ROI & Keelin in NI

Option 1: Kay-len

Option 2: Cal-en

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. :)

  1. As others have said to have a short 'a' as in Callum, you need a double 'L'
Chersfrozenface · 23/10/2023 16:10

Kay-lun.

Like Galen is pronounced but with a hard C instead of a G

ClarkGablesMoustache · 23/10/2023 16:11

Kay-Lin

Callum is also spelt Calum though but pronounced the same so not a great example 😂

Pemba · 23/10/2023 16:52

Not seen this name before I think but I would guess kay-len.

SoGladofYou · 23/10/2023 17:14

Dyslexia Specialist Teacher here. Option one is phonetically correct. Option two is a rule breaker.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 23/10/2023 17:44

Kay len.

UsingChangeofName · 23/10/2023 17:54

I'm in Midlands too, and the ones I've come across say it like Option 1 "Kay" then it is somewhere between "len" and "lun" for the 2nd syllable.

As has been said, same as 'Caleb'

Notmetoo · 23/10/2023 17:55

Option 1

NoNeedToHurry · 23/10/2023 17:57

To rhyme with the Halen of Van Halen

goalgrey · 23/10/2023 18:01

I wouldn't be sure so would probably ask

Fireisland · 23/10/2023 18:01

Kaylen, like Caleb

FayCarew · 23/10/2023 19:24

KAY-lun

Jacopo · 23/10/2023 19:28

It’s not a great idea to give a child a name that requires them to explain how to pronounce it and how to spell it. Had to change my own name for that very reason after several decades of it.

Jagley · 23/10/2023 21:46

I would have said option 2, like Callum. I watch ncis: Los Angeles though and there's a character callled Callen.

theduchessofspork · 23/10/2023 22:08

I think I would have said 2, until the Kayden , Jayden thing. Now I’d say 1

saddaughtertoday · 23/10/2023 22:23

1

AllegroConMoto · 23/10/2023 22:26

I don’t know the name at all, but my first thought was it was pronounced caa-len (aa as in the southern English pronunciation of “last” or “bath”)

Cropcycle · 23/10/2023 22:32

Cay-len because it has one l in it. I’d say it like Callen if it was spelled with two ll’s.

OliviaFlaversham · 23/10/2023 22:33

I’d have confidently pn it as option 1 as linked it visually to Caleb and only know Callums rather than Calums (darkgreener shows Callum is far more popular as a spelling).

LuluBlakey1 · 23/10/2023 22:34

1 Kaylen

If it was spelled Callen I'd pronounce it 2 Cal-en

N4ish · 23/10/2023 22:35

Do you mean the Irish name Caelan? If so it’s pronounced Kay-len.
