How would you pronounce Adia?

I've heard it pronounced A Dee uh , ah Dee uh and Ad ee uh if that makes sense.

Ad E ah

Rugbee · 21/10/2023 08:15

Aye -Dee-ah
would assume dia as in day in Spanish

DuchessOfSausage · 21/10/2023 08:16

Like Nadia without the N

Nadia is better. If you are thinking of using Adia, consider the pronunciation issues.
My thoughts is that it blends into the Aida, Ada, Ayda, Ayla, Ava, Edie type names, and looks a bit like it might be an ad agency or similar

Petrarkanian · 21/10/2023 08:16

Ay Da

NoNeedToHurry · 21/10/2023 08:20

Ah dee uhh

Like Nadia without the N. Though to be fair I guess some people say Nadd EEE uhhh 😂

Un7breakable · 21/10/2023 08:42

Thanks for the fast response. I was thinking like Nadia without the N, good way of describing it. Hate the name Nadia though and for us the link to Ada is a good thing.

Ada would be less complicated, and is not too popular

ChristmasCrumpet · 21/10/2023 08:49

Ay Dee Uh

With the Ay sounding like the end of Friday.

Ew. Nearly rhymes with labia.

Un7breakable · 21/10/2023 09:01

Umm Ada is very popular!

Well I wouldn't go as far as ew, but I did also make the above link

peaceinourtime · 21/10/2023 09:16

I think still as Ada?

DuchessOfSausage · 21/10/2023 09:25

It's a lot more popular than it was @Un7breakable , but not as popular as Ava
Babies called Ada in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)
and at least people know how to say it

Adia looks quite similar to Aria too

theduchessofspork · 21/10/2023 11:46

ah-DE-uh - a bit of emphases on the middle syllable, but not loads

I think Nadia or Adela would be a lot easier

Umm Ada is very popular!

Well yes that graph does make it look ridiculously popular (almost number 1 popular), until you realise the whole of the first bar represents the top 200. People have different definitions of popular so I can understand why some may describe a top 50 name as "very popular" but others would view a name outside of the top 30 as not overly popular. That graph would look very different though if the bars were more spread out, perhaps in increments of 50.

As for the original question, I would assume Ah-dee-ah but it's not a name I'm familiar with so fully prepared to be wrong. Personally I much prefer Ada as I'm not a fan of overly fussy, complicated names.

DuchessOfSausage · 21/10/2023 13:10

In 2021, there were about 300,000 girls born.
2576 were registered as Ava, (roughly about 1 in every 118 girls)
1202 were called Aria
1058 were named Ada,
747 called Alia
5 were Adria
4 were registered as Adia
3 as Adiya
etc

The figures are for England and Wales.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/10/2023 20:22

I'd say Nadia but without the N so Add-ia.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/10/2023 20:24

As in the song by Sarah McLachlan

Daisybuttercup12345 · 23/10/2023 17:47

I misread as Asda.
Ada is nicer.
