Thoughts on Christina?

Obvious nicknames could be Chris, Chrissy, Christi, Tine (pronounced 'Teen') or Tina.

I like it. However I may be biased as a Christian and Christina meaning follower of Christ!

Really pretty name. The nicknames less so.

Hereiamguys123 · 21/10/2023 05:58

I'm a Christian and like it. I also like Christianna

autiebooklover · 21/10/2023 05:59

It's a lovely name, I don't know anyone under forty with it. Not so keen on nicknames.

I loved Valarie but discounted it as it would inevitably become Val .

peaceinourtime · 21/10/2023 06:23

Tina is also a common nickname for Christina

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 21/10/2023 06:34

Sorry but in all honesty I think it’s very dated and had its day. The Christina’s I know are all Tina’s, not the best.

Gabriella - God is my strength.

RuthW · 21/10/2023 06:55

Lovely

KirstenBlest · 21/10/2023 07:23

Lovely. Could be Tina, Chris, Chrissie, Christie, Kitty.
Christi and Tine are awful.

MillionDollarBill · 21/10/2023 07:24

I like it and have never known one.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 21/10/2023 07:40

I know a Tina and a Christy. Both over 50 though. I think it's a bit dated.

The religious connection would put me off personally but if you are a Christian then it might be a good choice. Or perhaps a female biblical name instead.

Shangrilalala · 21/10/2023 08:42

My DD has a friend 18/19 Christina. She is quite glamorous and it really suits her. I’ve never heard her called by any nickname, though.

FourStringsNoWaiting · 21/10/2023 09:29

I really like it, I'd be pleasantly surprised if I met a baby Christina

TLDRfuckers · 21/10/2023 09:31

I love this name. Very uncommon.

Moomoomo · 21/10/2023 09:31

I'm not too keen on it to be honest. Objectively it's quite pretty but I think it's dated in the same was as Michelle or Tracy.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 21/10/2023 09:32

I don't love it. I feel like it's in the same kind of group as Sharron, Clare. Tina's not a bad nickname.

SpaceChocolatel · 21/10/2023 09:34

Classic name. I don't think most non-christian people would think too deeply about the Christian meaning behind it. I've known Tina's, Chrissy's etc and never given the meaning much thought.

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 09:35

Beautiful name. Nicknames only happen if you allow them.
Also love Christabel.

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 09:36

It’s in a different class to Sharon and Tracey or Michelle!!

Housenoob · 21/10/2023 09:36

I was randomly wondering the other day why it's so uncommon as it's a really nice name - I just wouldn't use it as I'm not Christian. I don't think it's as dated as Michelle, Tracey etc, it's more classic like male examples Christopher, Thomas etc. I only knew one Christina growing up and she was a lovely classy girl.

I suppose you could spell it like Cristina (like the character in Greys Anatomy) to make it less Christ related although it doesn't change the pronunciation.

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 09:37

Wouldn’t even cross my mind about the religious aspect and I was raised Catholic . The name Christian would.

ShazzaF · 21/10/2023 09:43

I know two younger Christinas, one in her 20s and the other in her 30s. I've never heard either of them called by a nickname, though, even by their families.

I love Christina but not any of the obvious nicknames.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 21/10/2023 10:17

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 09:36

It’s in a different class to Sharon and Tracey or Michelle!!

I disagree. I would also add Lisa, Karen, Cheryl, Marie and Denise to the mix.

theduchessofspork · 21/10/2023 11:31

It’s quite nice but would inevitably be shortened and all the nicknames are woeful - Chris and Tina are just depressing and being to mind low end 60s/70s names like Michelle, Christy sounds like a dimwit and Tine is even worse.

I suppose you could use Kit, given it’s short for Christopher, but otherwise find something else. The Uk is a Christian culture so umpteenth names have a Christian connection.

PickledScrump · 21/10/2023 11:34

Not a fan, sounds like a 90s stripper, not a name I’d associate with religion

TealTeaTowel · 21/10/2023 11:35

I know a few adult Christinas but no children.
They all go by Chris and hate being called Tina.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 21/10/2023 11:44

I know one who's brilliant and therefore I think it's a great name. I think the only nickname I've heard her be called is Stines ('Steens').
