Elsie Emmie??

Honest opinions of the name

Elsie Emmie

Elsie is about the only first name we agree on and I'd like Emmie after my Nan. My other children are all named after grandparents.

I'm just unsure if the E and E are too much? Although I know there are far more ridiculous names out there!!

Thank you

No way. They almost rhyme, it's naff. Pick one or the other!

MabelMaybe · 12/10/2023 13:49

I wouldn't. What was Emmie short for - could you use the longer name instead?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 12/10/2023 13:50

Sounds like a Peanuts character.

Emily6457 · 12/10/2023 13:51

Emmie wasn't short for anything. It was my Nan's full name, apparently very popular then.

With emmie as a middle name, or like a hyphenated first name?

Definitely not as 2 first names, as a middle name it doesn't matter that much tbh, and you rarely use it.

You could always squeeze another middle name in there to tone it down a bit: Elsie Marie Emmie Smith or whatever?

DressingRoom · 12/10/2023 13:52

Awful together, not just because of the Es, but the cutesy double 'ie' ending and same stresses and syllable count. It sounds like a brand of toddler dungarees.

You're either going to have to give up calling your child the only name you agree on, or calling her after your grandmother.

User9088 · 12/10/2023 13:52

Could you put another middle name in between to break up the two Es? Something not ending in ie as well.

Hygeelady · 12/10/2023 13:52

They don't go together. I'd go for Emmie - it isn't popular and is meaningful to you

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 12/10/2023 15:18

What was your grandmother's full name, or was she just an Emmie?

Elsie Emmie does sound a bit silly but if it's a middle name I don't think that matters a whole lot.

KEG05 · 12/10/2023 15:23

Op call her what you want. I have an Emmie so I love the name. It means something to you and in day to day life no one will call her her first and middle name together. So it doesn’t really matter if they ‘go’. Elsie was my grannies name and my little one would have been Emmie Elsie if my brother hadn’t already used Elsie for his wee one.

RuthW · 12/10/2023 15:30

I like it. It won't get used much anyway as a middle name.

JustPretend · 12/10/2023 15:36

Sounds a bit silly. Sorry.

PurpleChrayne · 12/10/2023 15:37

No.

It sounds like an organisation - LCMA.

Ilikeyourdecor · 12/10/2023 16:09

Elspeth Emmie? With Elsie the short form?

I don't love it, but on the other hand the older I get the more I realise middle names don't matter day to day.

NotFastButFurious · 12/10/2023 17:18

I don’t think the E is an issue so much as them both ending in “ie”. It might work ok with something with harder consonants in the middle.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 13/10/2023 08:45

...No. I would lengthen one of them. They're too samey samey together.

bohemianmullet · 13/10/2023 12:33

Elspeth Emmie? With Elsie the short form?

I actually really like this.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 13/10/2023 21:45

Sounds awful. Far too similar.
I would have Emmie personally. Don't like Elsie.

INTERNETEXPL0RER · 13/10/2023 21:50

Id look up your grans birth / marriage certificate , I bet that wasn’t her full name.

I agree that Elsie Emmie sounds like a company - LCME.

theduchessofspork · 14/10/2023 00:01

No, it’s like Milly Molly Mandy, it doesn’t work outside children’s fiction.

Elsie was originally short for Elizabeth, so call her Elizabeth Emmie or Elsbeth Emmie - Elsie for short.

BTW I think Emmie as a full name is quite modern (unlike say Elsie or Annie) so I’d also check your Granny’s birth cert - if it turns out she’s actually Emma, Elsie Emma is ok

Emily6457 · 14/10/2023 07:59

Thank you everyone. I thought it was a no go before posting!

Back to the drawing board!

(And Emmie was definitely her full name - it was quite common too!!)
