Cora or Claudia?

Just that really - I quite like both, and expecting DD2 in December! DD1 is Anna.

(The meaning of Claudia doesn't bother me at all, so wouldn't consider that a factor!)

Claudia. I’ve always found Cora a bit weak sounding.

I prefer Claudia too. I love Claudia but I think Cora is so harsh sounding!

Plus it sounds like corey which is another name for a willy which we use in our house.

Azaleah · 23/09/2023 19:09

Call her Claire 😂

I understand that Anna is her first daughter, not a first or middle name for her second daughter.

Yes, this is correct! Anna is DD1, Cora / Claudia under consideration for DD2. Not sure on middle names yet but likely to use family names. I'm looking up Cora Coralina poetry now! x

Thanks all for the input! I have to say I thought Cora would sweep this by a mile but it's so so mixed! Lots of food for thought.

Pronunciation of Claudia locally would definitely be Clawd. And pronunciation of Cora would be CORE-ah by everyone in local accent, not CAW-rah.

I don't love Claire!

Love Cora.

Claudia always sounds a bit pretentious to me (and very "mumsnet"... daughter of a middle aged middle class mum who reminisces about reading Mallory Towers 😬).

How about Cordelia nn Cora? Classic, Shakespearean if that floats your boat, and a little bit kick ass (Buffy fan).

RoyKentFanclub · 24/09/2023 22:54

claudia, or Cordelia

CorylusAgain · 24/09/2023 23:06

Cora.
I've never been keen on Claudia - I find it a clumpy sounding name. Cora sounds smoother to me.

SeptemberTime · 25/09/2023 20:36

Claudia is absolutely beautiful

Brexile · 25/09/2023 20:42

I prefer Claudia, but both are lovely names.

SkyeBlue28 · 25/09/2023 21:11

Cora

35andThriving · 26/09/2023 11:19

Claudia

Cora always reminds me of Corona.

jlb1988 · 26/09/2023 16:40

Cora is a very pretty name! Getting a little more popular but still unusual enough to make an impact.

Not as keen on Claudia but can't say that I hate it either.

ceecees · 26/09/2023 22:58

@Fiddlesticks25 That actually made me laugh out loud 😂

Claudia for me.
Cora sounds like a supermarket chain, abroad I think.

Normandy144 · 26/09/2023 23:07

I have a Claudia so am biased. Not very common (I think because of the meaning) but like you it doesn't bother me. She only gets called Claw-dia and although people from typically European backgrounds will say Cloud-ia but it's rare and to be honest it doesn't bother me as 99% if the time it's pronounced the way we say it.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 26/09/2023 23:09

Claudia, the only reason we didn’t use it was a CC with surname

OuiRagamuffin · 26/09/2023 23:11

I prefer Cora with Anna. They seem equal.
Claudia is too long with sister Anna.

Anneliese and Claudia
Anna and Cora

anothercupparosytea · 26/09/2023 23:14

Claudia is lovely. Cora is very harsh sounding to me, I don't like it at all.

DinnaeFashYersel · 26/09/2023 23:20

Both nice but prefer Cora

keffie12 · 27/09/2023 00:05

Cora is my choice

RainbowFish4 · 27/09/2023 08:30

Both beautiful names and I love Anna too. Claudia probably has the slight edge for me!

peaceinourtime · 28/09/2023 13:13

With Claudia you will get somewhere along line people either asking or using the German pronunciation of Cloudi-a. FYI

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/10/2023 17:14

Another who much prefers lovely Claudia - I think of it as one those elegant, Latinate, internationally well used- names like Anna, Julia, Helena/Elena, Louisa, Laura, Cecilia etc. So to me Claudia pairs better with Anna.

Cora is nice in it's own way but imo it's a slightly different style to very classic, international Anna - Cora feels more "English retro" like Eliza, Clara, Mabel, Violet etc to me (yes, I know it has Greek origins!)

If you like Cora, have you considered Sara or Lara? They are two -syllable and internationally well used like Anna but I think they feel slightly more "classic" rather than retro in style.

Claudia or Cara or Clara

Sugarfree23 · 02/10/2023 17:20
