Amy?

What are people’s thoughts on Amy? DH says it’s a little dated and very 80s, 90s. I tend to agree but I think it’s a sweet name and is not popular whilst still being normal and recognisable. What do people think?

The other name we have in mind is Charlotte but I’m not sure if it’s ‘the one’.

I like Amy. It's normal. Not dated in the old lady way. Use it if you love it.

TaigaSno · 13/09/2023 21:20

I think it's quite timeless. I know an Amy in her 80s, another in her 40s, another in her 20s, and another who is 10. I suppose that makes it a very popular choice. But it's really pretty sounding and classic.
Amy Charlotte works well as a combination!

DustyLee123 · 13/09/2023 21:21

I prefer Amy to Charlotte

Marsyas · 13/09/2023 21:21

I don’t associate it with the 80s and 90s, it’s more timeless - my great grandmother, great aunt and sister are / were all Amys and only one of them was born in the 80s/90s! It’s a lovely name, I was considering it if I had a girl.

waterlego · 13/09/2023 21:22

I think it’s a lovely name. I get what your husband means as it was probably peak popularity in the 90s, but it sounds classic to my ears, not dated.

YouHoooo · 13/09/2023 21:23

I find it really dull - but I’m an 80s baby and here were always a few of them in every class. I don’t know any little ones.

I prefer Charlotte, though.

continentallentil · 13/09/2023 21:24

It’s quite 70s-90s I guess.

I’m not crazy about it just because it’s quite slight.

I much prefer Charlotte, but it’s way overused, so I wouldn’t actually use it.

fairyfluf · 13/09/2023 21:31

I hate it if I'm honest. Much prefer charlotte

lazarusb · 13/09/2023 21:33

DD is called Amy and now in her 20s. It's a lovely name and she doesn't know any others in her age group.

kenadams86 · 13/09/2023 21:44

I much prefer Charlotte but I don't dislike Amy

Unicorn2022 · 13/09/2023 21:45

My eldest DD is called Amy and I still love the name. I love Charlotte too.

WalnutBlue · 13/09/2023 21:46

Amy is quite common where I am but a nice name.
Same for Charlotte.
They are both fairly timeless

weeRagamuffin · 13/09/2023 21:47

It's ok. Amy is so much better than Aimée

Daisybuttercup12345 · 13/09/2023 22:45

Like it. Suits all ages. Sweet but also unfussy.

jonnyjanetkeogh · 13/09/2023 23:12

Amy is such a beautiful name. We have an Amy in our family too and she loves her name. It's just a classic, gorgeous name!
Charlotte is lovely but has the royal connotations now which would put me off as it's become so popular now.

Smoky1107 · 13/09/2023 23:14

It's a lovely name! ( I have an Amy)

Theoldwoman · 14/09/2023 00:24

Aimee is great, Charlotte is even better!

RoseMartha · 14/09/2023 00:48

I think it is a classic name a bit like Alice or Charlotte or Victoria are.

I like it.

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2023 00:54

Amy is lovely. Such a simple, sweet, timeless name that I don't see as dated. I wouldn't define it as classic exactly, but it's gorgeous.

And for the love of god, spell it Amy. No faffing around with fancy pseudo French spellings like Aimee. No need.

I like Charlotte too, but have a preference for short, neat names that can't be messed around with, like Amy.

Amy106 · 14/09/2023 01:03

Amy is a great name.😁
My real name isn’t Amy by the way.
