Which name and why?

OP posts:

Hazel because every Ingrid I have ever known has not been a very nice person.

No other reason.

NailyDale · 13/09/2023 03:52

Gosh, they are very different names.

Ingrid. It's stronger. I've never met one under 50.

Hazel sounds a bit wood nymph-y.

SpringSummerDreamer · 13/09/2023 03:57

I like Ingrid. Hazel is a bit 'fey' and weak-sounding.

MaybeSeven · 13/09/2023 04:10

Both lovely imo. Difficult to choose between, tbh I'd probably be deciding based on surname

wandawaves · 13/09/2023 04:25

Hazel.
Ingrid just doesn't sound nice, it's an ugly name IMO.

Ohnonotmyname · 13/09/2023 04:29

I’m an Ingrid. Interesting to know I’m not nice and my name is ugly🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes, I am on the incorrect side of 50🥲

Funnily enough I’ve name changed for this.

Kay286 · 13/09/2023 04:47

Ermm any other options ? Not keen on either tbh If I had to pick Hazel … Ingrid I just picture a large brusk women 🤣

Paintedtoenail · 13/09/2023 05:04

Not keen on either in all honesty.

abyssofwoah · 13/09/2023 05:22

I like Hazel best (I have a soft spot for nature names) but I do like Ingrid too. Quite underused nowadays.

In my sleepy haze I initially read Hagrid in the thread title. Both are infinitely better than that!

Imogensmumma · 13/09/2023 05:25

Both lovely names OP

If I had to choose I would choose Ingrid as it seems a more solid robust name that would suit and adult and a child.

Brusque? Hazel for me too.

andjustlikethat1 · 13/09/2023 06:01

Hazel and ingrid are very old fashioned names. What comes to mind for me is they are part of the local tea sippers club, they like bird watching, they collect money for charity on a Friday, collect their pensions every second Wednesday and work in the local cancer research shop on a Saturday. They like knitting and local gossip. Please don't do it x

user1492757084 · 13/09/2023 06:03

Hazel is sweet.
Do you like Astrid?

lordloveadog · 13/09/2023 06:05

Both great. I know fantastic women called both of these.

HeartofAss · 13/09/2023 06:07

Both lovely. I don't know what anyone else is talking about.

I prefer Ingrid as it is slightly less used. I know a couple of young girl Hazels.

getfreddynow · 13/09/2023 06:08

Hazel as long as it works for your surname.

LittleButtercup · 13/09/2023 12:59

Ingrid is lovely!

pizzaHeart · 13/09/2023 13:04

I like Ingrid more. I’ve never met Ingrid in my life but the name gives me the vibe of a strong and sensitive person at the same time. And someone tall and gracious.
Hazel is fine, I just like Ingrid better.

NooNooTheNotSoGreat · 13/09/2023 13:06

Hazel. Ingrid is not an attractive name imo.

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 13/09/2023 13:06

Hazel

KirstenBlest · 13/09/2023 13:17

Ingrid

Do you mind me asking your age/what age bracket you're in? I'm just interested because that's not my perception at all

OP I really like both. I know a lovely Hazel but no Ingrids. Would it bother you that it's hard to shorten the latter, or is that part of the attraction? Astrid is also lovely, as a pp has pointed out.

Scruffington · 13/09/2023 13:18

Ingrid is a bit of a beefy battleaxe name.

Hazel is okay.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 13/09/2023 14:45

Gosh, Ingrid. It's just beautiful. It was on our list for DD.

And I quite like Hazel!

TempsPerdu · 13/09/2023 14:46

Both nice but very different! Interesting to see how people’s perceptions on the same name can differ.

Ingrid to me isn’t a frumpy old battle axe; I find it elegant, strong but a bit ‘cold’ (icy Scandi vibes). It’s probably a harder name to wear than Hazel.

I don’t find Hazel a weak or fey name either. It’s a tree name and quite unfrilly so to me it has a quiet strength. It’s warmer and softer than Ingrid though, and currently much more popular so a little Hazel would probably have an easier time fitting in.
