i love the name ida, and i have my heart set on it, but dp won't even entertain the idea! btw i'm not pregnant but just thinking ahead if you can rid your minds of blue-rinses and nora batty style tights, don't you think this is a great name???

(or is it just me?!)

Another no from me - sorry!

walkingwomb · 05/03/2008 13:25

to answer the other part of your question - i don't know ifyou can convince him. I had an unusual boys name that i LOVED but everyone else, including DH hated. I talked about it for ages, hoping it would normalise it, even talking about our future son like he was around, but it didn't work. so i just gave up and compromised. It is better than trying to bully your OH into liking something he doesn't

Fimbo · 05/03/2008 13:25

At the moment I don't like it, but may change my mind.

I never liked Maisie but actually think its quite nice now.

I also know a baby Albert, which I am sitting on the fence about too.

Who remembers Ida Clough in Coronation Street??????

TwinPeaks · 05/03/2008 13:42

I like it but then again I seem to like all names beginning with 'I', Iris, Irina, Ivana, Isobel, Imogen (my dd). Maybe I'm just weird. The child will suit whatever name you give it I think. Good luck with you oh

kateri · 05/03/2008 14:25

It's not a bad name, IMO, but if your DH really hates it, I don't think it's fair to try and bully him into it. Just let it go and think of another, there are so many lovely names!

jekyllandhyde · 05/03/2008 15:38

thanks for your opinions everybody - has definitely given me some food for thought....

walkingwomb and kateri - i wouldn't worry too much about the bullying of my oh, it really isn't that serious an issue for us (particularly as baby hasn't even been conceived yet), more a bit of a light-hearted debate between us...of course if he doesn't want the name then we will find a name that we both want. we don't bully each other about anything.

no

just bumping this thread as am interested to see if OP has had baby by now and what he/she was called...I'm expecting dd2 any day now and a favourite name is Ida. DS1 is called Stan. We are also considering Sydney for her but not sure which goes better.

Personally I think old names are lovely but clearly many on this old thread don't and just wondered if there had been a shift in opinion since 2008!

birdofthenorth · 20/09/2011 15:32

It's lovely! Go for it. I have an Old Lady Baby too Smile

LadyMary · 20/09/2011 15:33

IO like it a lot, and I am usually not a fan of old lady names. It's very pretty.

petaluma · 21/09/2011 14:19

Dh is quite set on Sydney, which was my original suggestion anyway, and thinks Ida is too similar to the more popular isla (which I like, but two friends have called their dds that) I think, actually, Ida is more pretty and more quirky too - and perhaps goes better with the middle name Yvonne (after my mum who died last year) than Sydney.

Hmmn, maybe we'll just wait to see which name she more looks like, like we did with ds1

lchodge · 21/09/2011 15:40

Definitely an old lady name. These kind of names seem to be quite popular just now, though I've no idea why!!

enjoyingscience · 22/09/2011 17:51

I love Ida! I really liked Adeline nn Ada if DS had been a girl, but I do go in for that type of name. Also loved Claribel, Constance and Minna (after a relative).

ShoutyHamster · 23/09/2011 17:03

Get him to agree to Isadora and call her Ida for short
