For a first name. Which one you like for a little girl and why?

They are both very pretty.

Rose is much more common, I think?

SkaneTos · 12/09/2023 22:26

So basically, would you prefer a common name, or a less common?

Londoncatshed · 12/09/2023 22:27

Rose, classic lovely name.

Theoldwoman · 12/09/2023 22:27

Rose.

Elegant, simple, classic.

Rachaelrachael · 12/09/2023 22:28

Rose - timeless, classic, beautiful

Lindy2 · 12/09/2023 22:28

Rose

You can't really go wrong with Rose. Timeless and classic.

cherryassam · 12/09/2023 22:29

I really like both.

Rose is simple and classic but pretty.

Lilia has a nice flow to it and is also very pretty. I do think there is a risk it might get mixed up a little with the other Lily / Lila / Layla names that seem very popular where I am at the moment

SouperWoman · 12/09/2023 22:29

Lilia / because she will not always be a little girl 😀

MissHoollie · 12/09/2023 22:30

I just don't like Rose .strangely I love Rosa!

Sunnyday2023 · 12/09/2023 22:30

I am based in the US. Rose is obviously very traditional and feels more common. In terms of popularity it is way more popular than Lilia. However, as a first name it is in a sweet spot for my taste in terms of popularity. It is Not too popular, so likelihood of encountering another rose (first name) is very low. However, i know many parents choose rose as middle name. So I am afraid my baby feel she has a basic name when she learns her classmates/fellows full names…

You mean Rose will not age well?

Rose Lilia?

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2023 23:55

Rose for sure. It's gorgeous.

In the US I'm sure it won't matter, but I'm old enough to remember that in the UK there used to be a brand of sanitary towels called Lilia Whites. That puts me off the name completely.

Pallisers · 12/09/2023 23:57

I'm in the US - my kids are in their early 20s and I don't think they had one friend called Rose. Depending on the region of the US obviously but I don't think it will be terribly common. Plus it is a lovely classic name so it doesn't matter how many other women have it.

I also think Rose is perfectly lovely for an adult woman. Lilia is nice but I prefer Lily - and definitely prefer Rose.

user1492757084 · 13/09/2023 06:15

Rose is best. It is confident as a grown up name.
Lila could be okay.

SpringIntoChaos · 13/09/2023 06:47

Prefer Rose...don't like Lilia at all. I'd actually use Rosa myself.

QueeniePlumtree · 13/09/2023 07:24

Rose! Beautiful, classic name that will age well.

Lilia is nice but I'm not a fan of 'Lil' (the saying 'Old Fag ash Lil' 🤮)

sjj28358 · 13/09/2023 07:29

I prefer Rose. It's classic, simple and strong. Lilia feels a bit fancy.

But remember these are mostly British ears responding; some names have a very different feel about them in another culture.

Dogon · 13/09/2023 08:03

Rose.

I feel like Lilia will be misheard a lot and people will think Lily.
It also reminds me of Cillia.

FoodFann · 13/09/2023 08:06

Rose

PickledScrump · 13/09/2023 08:07

Lilia is much nicer. Lilia Rose would be a lovely name

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 13/09/2023 09:12

Rose, it's classic and history has already shown us it ages well.

Lilia will get lost among all the Lily, Lara, Lola, Lyla, Lyra type names that are so popular rn and therefore already feels very time-stamped to me (so I imagine it will seem quite dated in years to come).

JanesBlond · 13/09/2023 09:17

Rose - it’s lovely, easy to pronounce and spell, and doesn’t get used much for first names.
Don’t like Lilia, it sounds like the Latin name for some body part. I prefer Lily to Rose though.

JanesBlond · 13/09/2023 09:20

SouperWoman · 12/09/2023 22:29

Lilia / because she will not always be a little girl 😀

I think it’s the opposite. Rose is an established name that I can imagine on all ages. Lilia is a frilly name that is more aimed at a little girl.

Whataretheodds · 13/09/2023 09:22

What do you think of Rosemary, Rosalind/Rosaline (both Shakespeare), Rosamund/e (from the ballet) as full names, known as Rose?

Not sure if it's the same in the US but Lily and Lila have been v popular here, while Rose seems v popular in the UK as a middle name so not heard as much.
