Felicity

In order:

  1. Verity (love)
2.Hariet (love)
  1. Felicity (nice but quite long)
  2. Hazel (not as keen on this one)

I like all of them. And know adults 40+ called Hazel, Harriet and Felicity. Just one child Verity though.

Lifeinlists · 12/09/2023 12:14

Hazel's very 1950s and a bit dowdy I think
Harriet's nice but not Hattie.
Felicity's fine and Fliss is ok but not Flick.
Names don't have to be shortened.
Verity - I've only ever known one and she wasn't the most virtuous! It's more unusual if that's what you want.

PickAPark · 12/09/2023 12:16

Love Hazel and Verity.

Lots of Harriets and Felicitys where I am. Harriet is the middle class professional choice (here). Felicity a bit more chavvy (DD has two in her year - Fliss and Flicky - like Vicky - which I find very funny but the kids think absolutely nothing if it). "Fliss-ity" is the local pronunciation if that might bother you.

gloriawasright · 12/09/2023 12:38

We have a harriet ,shortens to harri
It suits her perfectly.

Sleepnplay · 12/09/2023 13:03

Love Felicity and Harriet, both on our shortlist for DD, and DS would have been Felicity if a girl. I loved Mallory Towers as a kid, so sure that’s probably subconsciously influenced me!

I also know a Harriet which shortens to Harry which suits her so well, and Hattie is fab too.

Verity and Hazel are both nice too, so don't really think you can go wrong.

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 12/09/2023 13:03

@FluffMagnet Not where I live it isn’t! I know several Harriet’s and Hatties.

I like Felicity. Don’t like the rest.

Blodwen9 · 12/09/2023 13:22

dd is Harriet. never been a Hattie and always been the only Harriet in her school (London) - still love the name.

Also like Felicity - and quite like Cecily/Cecilia/Celia which have a similar vibe.

Not keen on Hazel or Verity. Knew a Hazel once and every called her Hazz.....

Crunchymum · 12/09/2023 13:29

Harriet for me.

Theoldwoman · 12/09/2023 13:52

Felicity is my favourite.

peaceinourtime · 13/09/2023 01:53

They’re nice. I would have liked to have been a Hattie

QueeniePlumtree · 13/09/2023 07:21

I'm just over 40, my cousin is Hazel and she's always hated it. She said it's stuffy, old and boring and felt at school she had an old ladies name. Apparently class mates used to laugh at her.

In her 40s now, she feels the same.

I love Felicity, Harriet and Verity in equal measure. It's a shame my DP doesn't! 😂

fearfuloffluff · 13/09/2023 07:23

Love hazel. So few tree names for girls!

Felicity is not bad, I like how it means happiness.

Verity and Harriet are ok in themselves but have a certain private school, Boden wearing feel to them.

LadyBird1973 · 13/09/2023 08:28

Felicity (unfortunately it doesn't go with my last name so I could never have used it for a dd). Hazel is also gorgeous.
But in all honesty, they are all nice names, so you can't really go wrong if they are your final 4!

Babybirdmum · 13/09/2023 08:31

Harriet sounds the least pretentious in my opinion, my friends baby is called Harriet and it really suits her.

PickledScrump · 13/09/2023 08:38

Felicity is my front runner for DD, absolutely love it. verity is great too, very underused. Hazel is ok, Harriet I really dislike

Lindy2 · 13/09/2023 08:59

Hazel has always been a favourite of mine. I also like Verity.

watchingsmurfs · 13/09/2023 09:01

I love Hazel. Beautiful name.

Anni1234 · 13/09/2023 09:02

Harriet / Hattie :)

OopsieeDaisy · 13/09/2023 09:19

I love Harriet and the nn Hattie, lovely name. Felicity is ok too.
Nothing particularly wrong with Hazel or Verity but for some reason I can’t stand either of them, they feel dated and I would agree with a pp that they are stuffy old lady names.

KirstenBlest · 13/09/2023 13:21

Hazel - ok.
Felicity - the meaning is nice but it's too long. Fliss is ok but Flick is awful
Verity - ok
Harriet - lovely, also like Hattie

TempsPerdu · 13/09/2023 14:40

Hazel or Verity for me.

Agree with @becarefulofyourheart feels a bit prim and twee. Around here it’s quite popular with those who are looking for a very ‘girly’ name that they see as upmarket.

Harriet is ok but does feel a bit staid and buttoned up to me. Makes me think of a no nonsense person in a tweed jacket!

I love the warmth, nature/colour associations and quiet strength of Hazel. I’ve come across a few Hazels as a primary teacher and they have all been really lovely girls - sensible, creative and artistic. Think this would be my top choice but I do also like the simple elegance and meaning of Verity.
