i have a friend with a baby due soon, and she was talking names and said how getting the right name is so important it has to last a life time !

it got me thinking, I’ll use my real names in this, it’s no big secret 😂

I was born - Katherine Margaret Jane Flora May Rolt, I was Katie-Jane, Kates, little Kate only my Nan called me Katherine until I went to boarding school where they insisted I was called Katharine.

after I left I was Katie at home, Katherine by school friends, Kate at work and my then boyfriend.

I married and became Mrs Katherine Mitchell - Kate, Katherine and Katie , sometimes Katie-jane by my dad !

I become a mother - mummy, kate, Katherine, Katie-jane, Auntie Kate

the children grew up and went to school where I worked - mum, kate, katherine, Katie-jane, Auntie Kate and mrs m by the children at school

my children are now grown, my best friend, nan, parents are all passed, I’m now called - Nana, Mum,Kate, Mrs M (my children’s friends still call be that even though I retired years ago ) and Auntie Kate

it’s sad think no one will call me Katherine or Katie or Katie-jane again, but I love my new names too.

That's such a lovely post.

Yes the evolution of names is interesting.

Charly (with a sh) when I was little.
Charlotte at school.
Charl when I got older and specifically at Uni
Lottie by one bf only. I liked it.
Aunty Charly (with a ch)
Charly (with a ch) when I was trying to be someone new at college
Charl mainly at home
Charly (with a ch) seeped from the Aunty Charly by some family
Mama
Mam
Mom

A few decades of Nana....

Very interesting posts!
Many different variations of your name can still be you and feel like you.

I have a short name, and I had never had a nickname before I moved abroad and got a nickname that was easier to say in the new language. I still cherish that nickname, even though I rarely hear it nowadays.

I don't have children, but perhaps my nephew will call me "Aunt 'MyName' " in the future. I look forward to that.
