I think this is a gorgeous name but is it boring/run of the mill? 🤔 so many Evie's ruining the classic chic Eve for me possibly..,

Eve and Eva are beautiful and classy names even if very well used.just depends how important that factor is to you.

DavinaTheDreadful · 06/09/2023 22:10

I don't know that many Eves (but loads of Evies)! I still like Eve. Not keen on Eva really.

neverenoughwine · 06/09/2023 22:34

I only know of one Eve.

She's a beautiful, 3 year old.

I think it's lovely 😍

SallyWD · 06/09/2023 22:37

I love it. I only know one who's 20. It's a chic, classic name. I much prefer it to Evie which is a bit cutesy for me.

Harrysutton · 06/09/2023 22:45

I have an Eve. She has never let me or anyone else call her Evie. She’s 16 and loves her name

TheaBrandt · 06/09/2023 22:50

Oh god no. There are legions of Eves. At one point one third of the girls in my dds class were named a variant of Eve. It gets terribly confusing. One to avoid.

continentallentil · 06/09/2023 22:56

It’s lovely but it’s absolutely done to death - along with all the Eva/Ava/Evelyn/Evies.. and Niamh now becoming popular too.

Jane?

KayEmAy · 07/09/2023 18:30

Eve is one of my all time favorites

While I don't know any Eves there are a ton of names with the nickname Evie that are surging in popularity right now, and that is my only hesitation

MorningSunflower · 07/09/2023 18:36

Eve is an beautiful name and surprisingly unexplored considering the plethora of Evies and Evas buzzing around.

MorningSunflower · 07/09/2023 18:37

a*

Itslosenotloose · 07/09/2023 18:39

I have an Eve born on Christmas Eve ❤️.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/09/2023 23:24

Happen to have an interest in this name as it was on my own girls list (had a DS in the end!)

Not at all boring, it's a beautiful, simple, elegant and timeless name imo 😍it often makes "classic" name lists for a reason (and I personally only know a few of very differing ages),

There are hardly "legions" of Eve's and no it hasn't been "done to death" (at least in England and Wales - a simple look at statistics will tell people that, it's never even quite made the top 50 for goodness sake and it's historically usually stayed outside the Top 100 including at the present moment). An Eve born today will likely be the only one in a smaller school - possibly a couple of others in bigger schools but that can happen with any name 🤔

An issue might be if she/her peers decided to use the nn "Evie" . In 1999 the film The Mummy came out (main character Evelyn "Evie") followed by the film Pearl Harbour in 2001 (main character Evelyn). Evie and Evelyn (who often seem to be known as "Evie") shot up the charts and are only gradually decreasing now - Evelyn the more slowly since that has also been boosted by the 100 year naming rule (my own Great Grandmother was an Evelyn!).

Eva is kind of a special case, as although it has been greatly boosted by the popularity of Evie and Evelyn, it's a much more "classic" name as it's so multicultural and is used by all ages in other countries. So I suspect it might stay reasonably well used even as Evelyn and Evie eventually fall, since many people look for multicultural names now.

Anyway, long story short OP- do you care that there will be multiple Evie/Evelyn/Eva's in your DD's school? (check the ONS stats for your area) There may even be several in her class. Could be confusing to teachers/peers if your Eve doesn't stand out for other reasons (than her name). If you aren't bothered by that, then I say go for it - Eve is such a lovely name.

TheaBrandt · 08/09/2023 00:29

What are you talking about?! It has totally been done to death. We were registering Dd for 6th form as we sat down the teacher said “Eve?”. We said no not her name his response “worth a try every other girl this morning has been called Eve”.

Definitely one to avoid the same as calling a girl Sarah in the 70s.

Ladybird69 · 08/09/2023 00:33

Evaline is a nice name and you can shorten to Eva if you want to.

CallieQ · 08/09/2023 00:40

Lovely

Wind your neck in

Eve has been one of my very favourite names for donkeys years. I’m an very recently retired teacher and have never had one in my class and can’t remember there being one in any school I’ve worked in. Out of work I know 1 five year old Eve and one who is 30 +. Eva and Evie however are very popular and I’ve had many. Have a look at the dark greener website to compare the popularity. I’d definitely go for Eve.

Treesinmygarden · 08/09/2023 01:17

If my 20 year had been a girl, he would have been Eve Katharine. I still love the name!

Yes, in the sixth form of a large school today there might (possibly) be several Eve's -because they will all be have been born when Eve was near the height of it's popularity in the lower half of the top 100. Can you not understand how statistical data versus anecdotal experience works?

I can understand if there were several Eve's plus a couple of dozen variations of more popular Evie/Eva/Evelyn in a year group that a teacher might feel like that. But considering we are discussing an Eve born now -when Eve is at number 181 and falling and the numbers of Eve's, Evie's, and even Eva's have almost halved since 10-15 years ago - it's unlikely to be as relevant to her by the time she gets to sixth form is it?

GodspeedJune · 09/09/2023 00:13

A timeless classic. I’ve only met one in person.

TheaBrandt · 09/09/2023 06:22

You will meet many many more in the coming years…

Baffles me why so many people choose the same name. There are numerous lovely normal names around why are so many drawn to Eve?! Perfectly nice name but It gets very confusing practically.

My teens have to add the surname to their Eve friends (dd1 has had 3 Eve friends over the years dd2 currently has around 4). You can get cross with me all you like but this is my multi Eve reality!

Katela18 · 09/09/2023 07:16

Beautiful. If my 1 year old son had been a girl he'd have been Evelyn / Eve.

It is quite popular atm, in DD is 3 and at her nursery there are two Evie's, one Eva and two Ava's although I don't think there is anyone who is just Eve.

Tbh I wouldn't let this put you off though, if you love it just go for it 😊

I was a Katherine in the 90s, at primary I was 1 of 3 in my class. Never bothered me and was never an issue tbh

Daisybuttercup12345 · 13/09/2023 23:05

Evelyn?

Tiredeimz · 14/09/2023 01:48

I have an Aoibh, pronounced as eve but spelt the Irish way.

Itslosenotloose · 14/09/2023 11:37

@TheaBrandt My DD is 11 and we have never met another Eve her age. Might be an area thing.
