Not expecting atm, but always have a wee notion of another down the line.

We have all boys and have a bit of a pang that we didn’t get to use our girls names - my favourite was Anna & husband’s was Kate.

If we ever had a fourth child, I don’t think we could choose between them. So I was thinking, maybe mother’s name?

Is Patricia too dated? I don’t like Pat/Patty/Patsy or anything like that.

I think Patsy is cute.

Thenakedwineglass · 30/09/2023 23:31

Going against the grain here but I know a Patricia and she is amazing and therefore it makes me associate the name with good things. Plus lots of ways to adapt it like patsy, Trish etc

Frances0911 · 30/09/2023 23:39

This is my first name. My mum was Scottish so it was traditional to name your children after family members, so I was named after her sister.

My mum called me Patsy as a child. In my late 20's when I moved, I told people who didn't know me to call me Patricia. However even today, almost everyone wants to shorten it and no one ever seems happy until I give them a shortened version, be it Patsy or Trish. Often, if I say I don't have a shortened version, people automatically call me Pat which I hate.

Frances is my middle name btw.

Christine and Frank Lampard’s daughter is called Patricia. It can be classy if used in full.

FriedasCarLoad · 01/10/2023 00:38

I think it's rather elegant and it's a great idea to choose an underused name rather than an overused name.

14blackcrows · 01/10/2023 00:45

I personally really hate it. I'm not sure why. It dies sound quite dated I think.
I love Kate and Anna

justasoul · 01/10/2023 00:50

DD’s middle name after late MIL - I’d have chosen it as a first name as I quite like it but I left that choice to DH. I suspect it’s a fairly common middle name currently if people choose to honour grandparents…

Leafblow · 01/10/2023 03:33

My family included a wonderful Patricia who was adored. Our family uses names of elder family members in our childrens names. Despite being essentially the head of our family for years and missed by everyone, nobody put Patricia in their childrens names. Because the name is ugly, she herself throught it was shit and was much happier to be called Mum/Nanna by everyone, and all of the shortenings (Pat, Patsy, Patty, Trish, Trisha) are also awful.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 01/10/2023 09:16

It will be in the next wave of granny-chic names, and we should all be prepared to start meeting babies named Patricia, Jean, or Barbara within the next ten years or so. You would be ahead of the curve!

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2023 09:19

It's a 1940/50 name.

It's got 20 years before it's due a comeback. And rightly so.

peaceinourtime · 01/10/2023 14:32

It will be shortened somewhere along the line. Patty or Patsy are nice.

SemperIdem · 02/10/2023 01:16

It’s my lone living grandparents name.

It’s horrible. No.

Both my grandmothers and my stepgrandmother assured me when I was pregnant that they not only didn’t expect me to name their great granddaughter after them, but actively did not want me to, first or middle name. They all had very ‘of their time, just about’ names.

I wish I knew where all the grandmothers called Lily and May lived because I’ve never known an elderly one. Did meet a Betty once.

justasoul · 03/10/2023 00:24

I had quick peek at the ONS historic data and both Lily and May were on a downward trajectory from the beginning of the 20th century. Lily seems to fall off the top 100 in the 1930s (as does May) and resurface in the 1990s. Patricia dropped from the top 100 in the 1970s so has another 10ish years to go… Grin

tiredoffeelingrubbish · 04/10/2023 12:30

I've met lots

I like it myself, its unusual these days but not a silly made up name also who wouldn't want to share a name with this goddess ...

Patricia
VeryQuaintIrene · 05/10/2023 02:06

Patricia the Stripper by Chris de Burgh. So...no.

mathanxiety · 05/10/2023 05:38

I don't think its time has yet returned.

Also, if your older DCs are all boys, choosing a female version of a male name is going to look as if you were disappointed to have a girl.

TerfTalking · 05/10/2023 05:40

Hideous name, I’m allowed to say it as it’s my middle name and my mothers name. She’s 87 and I’m 57. My SIL is 60 and it’s her name and my cousin is 65 and it’s her middle name too.

Ilikeyourdecor · 05/10/2023 07:12

I like it although don't like the diminutives.

Why not double barrel and use Anna-Kate? I think they go well together.
