Can’t agree on a name - which would you choose?

Hi all,
I’m expecting a baby girl in a couple of weeks and DH and I are struggling to agree on a name.

We had agreed to Charlotte even though I didn’t think it was ‘the one’. He now refers to her as this name which isn’t really sitting right with me - I don’t know if this is my gut instinct telling me that it’s not quite right or I’m overthinking?

I love Eve and have suggested a compromise of Eve Lily (he loves Lily but we feel it’s very popular) when I would have like the middle name May as it’s a family name on my side. He thinks Eve is a bit dull but I think it’s beautiful.

This morning I asked him to stop referring to her as Charlotte and I think he was exasperated as it means we will start discussing names again. I’ve listed our shortlist below. What would you choose? I feel like just sticking with Charlotte but I don’t want to regret it.

There were a few names I loved but we removed from the short-list as he didn’t like them, which is fair enough.

So that leaves Phoebe for me. Also popular but not top 10.

Eve because it's my daughter's middle name! She's 23.

I like Charlotte the most of these but they are all nice. Charlotte Lily or Charlotte Eve works well. Equally if you really prefer Eve and he prefers Charlotte maybe wait until she's born and see which one fits better.

I love Lily or Charlotte (Lottie is cool as a nickname)

I read a post on mn once that saved my sanity when DH and I were at loggerheads over our unborn baby's name.

It doesn't have to feel like 'the one'. As long as you both like it then that's reason enough to agree.

I will add that if there's a name that you like, and can't think of anything about it that you actively dislike, that's a good candidate for a name. I think it's rare for a couple to really love the same name.

My husband compromised twice, and I compromised the third time. He loved a certain name, I loved a different one. We came across a name that had a little of the essence of both but not as striking. It's a nice name. Not 'wow!'

It suits the baby so much and I am so glad that we compromised on a simple, pretty name that we could both live with.

Another point is that I wouldn't pass too much notice on whether a name is too popular. They are popular for a reason!

My favourite from the list is Lily May. I think it's beautiful. I don't like Charlotte, prefer Eva to Eve and don't like Phoebe either.

Have you thought of Anna? I love it.

I really like both Eve and Charlotte - however Eve is even more popular than Charlotte. Every other girl in some classes is Eve/Eva/Evie/Ava/Evelyn - mostly all known as Evie.

So I’d go with Phoebe, which is nice

Eve and variations on that Evie, Eva , Ava, etc etc are literally everywhere at the moment.
Lily was that popular name about 5 yrs ago..all variations on Lily- xxxx

with my second dd dexh and I both had 'the one' but they weren't the same 'one'....no one would budge , so we went back to the name books and found the name we both rated as third choice was the same for both of us....19 yrs later my dd2 adores her name !

How about Ottilie? It has the 'Lily' sound in there but is a bit more unusual.

Eve is my favourite - it’s popular for a reason 😊

Your husband thinks Eve is dull, you don't adore Charlotte so start again. No to Eve, you can't choose a name one of you doesn't at least like a lot.

We went for Charlotte, despite my reservations when she was born she just looked like a Charlotte! No regrets

Of those I love Eve the most. All beautiful, classic names though

My favourite is Phoebe, but from what you've said, Lily Charlotte would be great.
