I like it - although likely to be shortened?

LadyKenya · 20/08/2023 14:07

Not keen.

Womblegreen · 20/08/2023 14:08

Much prefer Claudia.

xmasbbq · 20/08/2023 14:11

Fine for a French filly.

CapaciousHag · 20/08/2023 14:19

I think it’s really cute!

continentallentil · 20/08/2023 14:20

Claudia is much nicer

Floralnomad · 20/08/2023 14:22

Much prefer Claudia , Claudette is a bit frilly .

LBFseBrom · 20/08/2023 14:23

French. A pretty name, I like it and have known a couple of Claudettes in my adult lives who were lovely women.

Neverseenbefore · 20/08/2023 14:24

Irredeemably linked to school French for me - Marie-France, Jean-Paul and Claudette.

Marmighty · 20/08/2023 14:24

I know one who goes by Etty, which I like

LaChatte · 20/08/2023 14:25

Awful in French !

Yes exactly 😂😂

Hillcrest2022 · 20/08/2023 16:18

Lovely if there is a French connection in the family. I've not heard Claudia in years so it would be quite original and is a beautiful name.

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 20/08/2023 16:19

Prefer Claudine.

MerryChristmasToYou · 20/08/2023 17:32

Claudine is better

toastofthetown · 20/08/2023 17:37

I love Claudia. I find -ette names as whole to feel dated. To me -ette names sound overly fussy, while being clunky with it. Kind of like a hippo wearing a tutu (with Odette being the sole exception).

MirandaBlu · 20/08/2023 19:20

According to my very opinionated French partner, the only "current" -ette name is Juliette. I have a soft spot for Odette and Nicolette. I have a Claudine in my family (not French, and definitely after the Colette character) and it's always seemed like a solid, unobjectionable name - although the first syllable tends to get a lot of different pronunciations (French, English, German).

Mimilamore · 20/08/2023 19:54

Lovely... if you like it have it. You are pleasing you not everyone else x

RitzyMcFitzy · 20/08/2023 19:56

The -ette names are probably not going to come back for another 20 years. They still seem a bit naff to me but you're just probably head of the curve.

I prefer Claudia or Claudine.

RitzyMcFitzy · 20/08/2023 19:57

Although I quite like Babette

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 20/08/2023 19:59

Nope. Claudette or Claudine or even Claude or Marie-Claude may sound terrific to an English ear, but not to a French one. These names are very old lady, not in a vintage chic kinda way, on the other side of the channel.

MerryChristmasToYou · 20/08/2023 20:06

I agree, but that is usually what happens if you use a name from another language or culture. Chances are you'll have heard the name on an adult, so it will have been a baby name when that adult was born, but that trend will have passed.

Prefer Claudine.

Yes! I went to school with a Claudine, I had such name envy. I think it's really chic.

Tricolore textbooks?

I prefer Claudia. Claudette sounds too old school French to me.

Ah, Tricolore! All those visits au discothèque.
