Sister name for Alexandra

Hi, hopefully it won’t be too outing. We need a name for our second DD due in few months. First daughter name is Alexandra with nickname Sasha.

need something that’s similar ie international, not too novel and not too English(welsh/Scottish etc), but that can be shortened into something more unique.

i like Dina but not as a complete name, only as a nickname. But to what?

I love Veronique (husband doesn’t)
Victoria (can be Vika/Vicky)
Pauline
husband likes Edie and Stephanie but I’m not keen
maybe Alice?

other than that I’m really struggling!
not Maria, Anna, Lily, Lucy, Lydia or Zoe
also can’t use Emily or Nicole although I do like these

what do we do?

thank you 😊

p.s. in all cases I prefer the longer version to the nickname. Beautiful names.

Saskia

Alexandra and Philippa / Sasha & Pippa
Alexandra and Harriet / Sasha & Hattie
Alexandra and Charlotte / Sasha & Lottie

Demetra/Demetria nn Demi

Gemma nn Emmy, Gigi

Aurora nn Rory

Annika nn Annie, Nik

Josette nn Josie, Jo

Malia nn Lia

Wilhelmina nn Billie, Minnie, Ellie

Annabelle nn Belle, AB

Calista nn Callie

Love Alexandra and also love Victoria, which is quite unusual these days. Both beautiful names.

Harriet.

Alexandra is a regal name, so I'd look to Victorian/Edwardian names for some ideas: Mary, Louise, Alice, Beatrice/Beatrix, Elizabeth, Victoria, Eugenie, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Maud...

I agree

Lampzade · 16/08/2023 19:09

Alexandra / Victoria/!Elizabeth- All regal names with four syllables

Justneedagirlname · 17/08/2023 16:09

Thank you so much for all the suggestions! Sorry had family visiting so didn’t get round to responding :)))

some really beautiful names that I haven’t considered!

Thank you, that’s a good point, went on to read about Victorian/Edwardian names (also Regency ones and royal ones to boot!)

I really like Alice and Beatrice! Alice may be tricky as it is used in the family but I might either use it anyway, or at least use it as a second name.

i love Elizabeth in English but in my own language I’m less fan of it, so so tricky

Ooops quote didn’t show🙈

I see quite a few are also suggesting Victoria :)))
they do sound pretty good together it seems!

Charlotte, Elizabeth and Alice seem to be suggested by several too.

Victoria Alice would sound very good with a last name we have, to be fair.
Also am suddenly loving Sofia/Sophia (with Sonya as nn). Sofia Alice? (Not four syllables though).

Adore Eleanor and Eloise! Would they be Ellie as nn?

(And then she comes and looks nothing like Victoria, you know 🙈 with first DD i just knew she needs a ‘strong’ name, it was kind of obvious she was Alexandra and not Stephanie)

Alexandra and Eleanor

Halfemptyhalfling · 17/08/2023 16:43

Cleopatra so Sasha and Cleo

porridgeisbae · 17/08/2023 16:44

IDK if it goes but in general, I like Angelica.

Ladybird69 · 17/08/2023 16:52

Georgianna, Isabella and Olivia go nice with Alexandra

Justneedagirlname · 17/08/2023 17:20

Sasha and Sophia/Sasha and Sonja - is it odd that both will have same initials from S???

TidyDancer · 17/08/2023 17:28

I like the suggestions of Harriet or Helena. Both fit really nicely. Probably more so Helena actually (which is much prettier than Eleanor/Elena).

Coronationstation · 17/08/2023 17:45

Why would you use Sonya as a nn for Sophia? They’re two completely different names!

No, they’re not. Sonya is a Russian diminutive for Sophia.

Yeah, Sonya is a standard nn in some ;) languages for Sophia like Sasha is for Alexandra

@Justneedagirlname why does the name have to be shortened?
If you like Eleanor just call her that , diminutives are not the same as nicknames.
Josephine?

Just a cultural thing really, in my country most names have diminutive version and these versions are for family and friends/acquaintances .

  • i Like a shortened name, and her sister already has a shortened one. Would be a bit strange to have Sasha and Eleanor 🤷‍♀️
