I’m finding it impossible (with 5 weeks to go..) to think of girls names I really like. Not keen on anything too classic but equally nothing too out there…

names I do quite like:

Mia
Freya
Niamh
Lily

Please let me know what you think or any other suggestions ☺️

Pippa is my favourite name to date! So classy!

Bean83ts · 13/08/2023 19:41

For girls I love:

Erin
Nola
cora
nora
violet
Imogen
eloise
lilith
inara

Dontworkmondays · 13/08/2023 19:56

If neither of you are Irish then Niamh feels a bit latching onto to another heritage.

GirlsAndPenguins · 13/08/2023 20:45

I have a 5 month old called Niamh. Neither of us have any Irish heritage. I decided there are too many Anglican spellings. It’s an Irish name and there is only one Irish way to spell it. I prefer to use correct spellings personally.
I like all your others names but personally not Lily. As a teacher I must have 3 Lilys (of varying spellings) in every class I teach!

LdyPdy · 13/08/2023 21:12

I love the name Freya, but my husband wasn't keen. We called our daughter Emily in the end.

Snugglemonkey · 13/08/2023 21:25

PEARLJAM123 · 13/08/2023 17:29

Neeve or Neve work well. I am a teacher and have seen ALL the spellings for EVERY name. Don't over complicate it!

They do not. They are fucking hideous.

Alloveragain3 · 13/08/2023 21:54

I love Niamh and Mia, both on my list.

I do struggle with Mia sounded a bit plain though. How about Amelia or Amelia?

Cdonaghy159 · 13/08/2023 22:24

My daughter is Cassie and she always gets such compliments when she tells people her name

porridgeisbae · 13/08/2023 22:41

@Gelpennen I always read Niamh sort of like it's spelt- didn't realize I was doing it wrong but I like it. Smile So how about Nima / Nema?

porridgeisbae · 13/08/2023 22:45

Naive? :)

porridgeisbae · 13/08/2023 22:46

My daughter is Cassie and she always gets such compliments when she tells people her name

My eldest dd is thinking of Cassiopeia (Cassie) or Persephone (Sephy) for a girl.

Helena91 · 14/08/2023 16:27

One of our girls is Rosalie Celeste. People say it's unusual and pretty. I also like Eden.

Zoda8 · 14/08/2023 16:40

Sienna, Lily, Amelia, Evie, Rosie

I have a Neve - I loved the name Niamh but we don't have much Irish heritage (a teeny bit) so we went for the Dutch spelling instead. Easier to spell. :D

Charlottejade1995 · 14/08/2023 21:37

Mallie
Ivy

FindingMeno · 14/08/2023 21:55

Love Mia and Freya.
Other thoughts:

I think Niamh is well known enough that it’s not an issue outside Ireland. ----

Says someone who is clearly not called Niamh.

I used to dream of being called Mary or something that can be pronounced easily.

OP if you call your kid Niamh and you're not Irish, you are condemning them to a lifetime of being asked if they are Irish, them having to explain why it's spelled the way it is (I bet many non Irish don't even know why) and an eternity of having to spell their name out. I even use a pseudonym in Starbucks. It's a PITA

Lelliekellie · 15/08/2023 13:06

Lyra?

caringcarer · 15/08/2023 13:11

Gelpennen · 10/08/2023 22:05

Thank you!

I think Mia and Niamh are my favourites but worried about Mia being too popular and we’re not Irish or living in Ireland so that might rule out Niamh…

what about Keira?

I like Kiera it's more unusual. There are so many Mia's around.
