I know we’re a while away yet but what names do you think we will start to see a resurge of in a decades time? Will Linda, Elaine and Tracey be back? Will Elsie, Ivy and Mabel be out? Will everyone still be using May and Rose for middle names? What are your predictions? I am mainly thinking of girls names but interested in boy predictions too!

I think it might be a bit too early for Linda, Elaine etc but I think some other ‘granny chic’ names will start creeping back in like June, Audrey, Gwendoline and then possibly towards the end of the period it could shift to names like Shirley, Gloria, Pamela.

There might be a move away from the current vowel heavy names for girls - perhaps names like Nicola, Rachel, Catherine, Anne, Mary, Marianne, Sarah, Joanna might become more popular.

For boys, I think the Alfie, Archie, Charlie etc phase will have passed but not sure what will replace it.

Who knows with increasingly culturally and ethnically diverse Western Europe. I think the UK will see lots of Hindu at Nigerian names. Perhaps a few Albanian.

I realise most of my friends who had baby girls in the early 00's gave them the middle names of Grace, May and Rose.

It's tricky when you have students with the same first name and surname - we try to differentiate using middle names, but found we had more than one Georgia May X, and more than one Eleanor Rose Y and Lily Rose X!

A new baby in our family is called Frederick, Freddie for short but never Fred because his mum doesn’t like that. His brother is Oliver. Do you think David will come back ? William, Jack are already ‘back’ round here. Grace and Isla are now popular and I’m waiting for Ethel, you never know.

I think names like Linda, Elaine and Tracey are still several decades away from coming back. The trend for older names seems to be that they gain popularity once the previous generation with that names has mostly passed away.

Dennis, Roland, Percy, Terrence, Bernard, Cecil, Walter

Beryl, Audrey, Rita, Phyllis, Hilda, Mavis, Eileen,

I also think we’ll go the way of America and have a lot more new and untraditional names or names that were surnames or places. Names like Rawlings, Kinsley, Peighton, Saylor, Landon etc; these are the kinds of names I see Instagram Influencers in America name their children.

DDs best friends, both have hyphenated May names and both have first names that are 2 syllables and begin with L.

There are a lot of Muhammads where we and I think that's probably a permanent feature in the UK. I do hope to see the back of vowel heavy girls names and twee nicknamey boys names.

I'd like to meet lots more Davids.

I can't see Tracey making a comeback but I have wondered about Gary 😂

We've seen a drop in traditional names and a rise in names like Luna and I wonder if it signals the start of something new.

Oh! My god. How could I forget American style surnames as first names are big atm. Lots of baby Greyson and Harrisons so I expect to see some Clyde's, Blairs and Coopers next.

Would be nice to see some authentic names. So far most of people from other backgrounds trying hard to blend in with all the Sofias, Aylas, Josh and Adams

I think we will start to see a lot more Northern Europe-inspired names like Karl, Axel, Agneta, Kirsten and so on.
