Is every girls name in popular usage twee?

I feel like 99% of currently popular/ vaguely popular girls names are twee.

  • Top 10: Amelia, Olivia, Ivy, Ava, Evie, Freya
  • Vintage/ retro names: Mabel, Elsie, Edie, Bonnie, Ada
  • Frilly names: Arabella, Aurelia, Liliana, Viviana
  • Even some names adopted from other cultures in an effort perhaps not to be cutesy: Penelope, Sylvie, Clementine
  • Nickname names: Lottie, Mimi, Gracie
  • Anything ending in an “ie”

obviously lots of overlap here

Not twee:

  • Feminisations of male names: Albertine, Thomasina, Edwina, Maxima
  • 4 letter international sounding names: Naia, Mina, Sanne, Anna
  • Most names in popular usage throughout the second half of the 20th century: Karen, Rachel, Claire
  • Most but not all “classic” (royal or literary names)

thoughts?

Many of the names that OP says are twee aren't twee.

  • Top 10: Amelia, Olivia, Ivy, Ava, Evie, Freya
Only Evie is twee
  • Vintage/ retro names: Mabel, Elsie, Edie, Bonnie, Ada
They're retro/vintage but not twee
  • Frilly names: Arabella, Aurelia, Liliana, Viviana
They're frilly and fussy but not twee
  • Even some names adopted from other cultures in an effort perhaps not to be cutesy: Penelope, Sylvie, Clementine
None of those are twee
  • Nickname names: Lottie, Mimi, Gracie
They're a bit twee
  • Anything ending in an “ie”
To wide a category to say. I wouldn't say that Valerie was twee.

I don’t think the name really matters unless it’s something like Angel or Bunny and the kid is like their name. There’s a Minnie (my daughter’s friend) and she is very embarrassing for her age. She is 11 and acts like she’s 7 and her mum treats her that too. Her sister is about 14 and they play barbies and shopkins💀and she wears rainbows and unicorns. It’s her choice to be honest but it’s a bit embarrassing. In this YES the name is twee as well as the kid but generally the name doesn’t matter it’s the kid

Surely it's better for 11 and 14 year old girls to be playing with Barbies than vaping in a bus shelter or whatever most teenagers do nowadays.

Most parents to be or new parents of a daughter imagine their baby as being a sweet and cute child and therefore want a name to reflect that

No one think that in 18 years time their daughter could be a fifteen stone Goth so they had better call her Gonk just in case.

🤣🤣

True but doesn’t mean they need to play with doll houses and toys for younger kids. I mean it’s their decision just find it a bit weird. I didn’t mean they need to be out being antisocial

Twee girl and boy names(my opinion):
Teddy
Angel
Kitty
Coral
Delilah
Darcey
Bear
Bee (Bea is nice tho bc the spelling isn’t spelt like 🐝)
Addy

Well they don't really make toys for teenagers to play with anymore, so their options are a little limited if they want to play with toys. And loads of adults still buy Barbies.

On topic, I think boy's names suffer from this as well. From too cutesy like Teddy, Freddie, Archie, Alfie and Albie etc., to overly sentimental and quite grand names like Rafferty, Cassius or Sebastian. The idea that these names are the Colin, Mark and Nigel of the future, pasty pudgy balding office workers in their 50s, feels wild to me.
