Would you stick with original name if it meant your baby girl initials spelt M.A.N

So we’ve had a girl name chosen since 2020 when we had our little boy.
Our DS has a really cute name for my bump and I am considering using it as a middle name, but this would mean her initials would be MAN ….would you still go for this?

I can’t imagine not using either of the names, but the middle name is quite obscure so I wouldn’t want to switch them around 🫠

Yes I would. What’s the worst that can happen? ‘Oooh your initials spell out MAN! Lol’, then nothing left to say about it. Certainly not worth ditching a lovely name for!

ScarlettDarling · 21/07/2023 14:11

That definitely wouldn’t put me off…if the initials were going to spell BUM or POO I might have second thoughts but MAN wouldn’t be an issue at all.

cyncope · 21/07/2023 14:13

I wouldn't care. But you could always add another middle name in and make it MARN or MAGN or something.

KirstenBlest · 21/07/2023 14:32

I wouldn't add another middle name just to stop it spelling MAN
Assuming the R and G are Rose and Grace, just no, they are boring middle names

TropicalTrama · 21/07/2023 14:34

I would definitely add another middle name

Wheredidtheselotapego · 21/07/2023 14:36

How often do you write out all your initials? Usually it’s just the first and last. Wouldn’t bother me

Dontyoustart · 21/07/2023 14:40

nah don’t change it. My dds initials are a well known acronym. She’s 13 now and it has never even remotely been an issue.

Lindy2 · 21/07/2023 14:43

I can't see a problem with MAN.

My children are teenagers now don't think they've ever had all 3 of their initials used on anything. It's actually quite rare that initials are used at all.

Initals were my email address at one job. I wouldn’t have wanted everyone to email me as ‘man’ 🤣 Also DH went to a boarding school where they were used a lot too, and apparently there was teasing because teenagers. Ours won’t be boarding but he was still insistent ours couldn’t have silly acronyms and DD’s order of names was changed to avoid one even though it was pretty innocuous.

Papernotplastic · 21/07/2023 14:56

Is it a name that she’ll find cute when she’s 20?

SallyWD · 21/07/2023 14:59

It's fine! 99.9% of people won't notice and the other 0.1% of people won't care. I only realised recently that my brother's initials spell ASS. Known him 45 years and never noticed!

Hannahsbananas · 21/07/2023 15:03

Is it an actual name, or something random he’s come out with?
I wonder if she’ll be as entertained as you are being saddled with it for life!

Sugarplumfury · 21/07/2023 15:07

How many situations end up with you writing your initials. Unless it’s something really rude sounding, I’d not give it a second thought and stick with the names you like.

MardaNorton · 21/07/2023 15:09

Only on Mn do weirdos (whom I tend to hope are coming from an over-sensitive place of having been bullied at school, rather than having themselves been the bullies) do people go to endless lengths to find reasons to raise Dark Concerns about perfectly ordinary names or name combinations on the grounds that it vaguely reminds them of something (eg 'Oh you can't call her Orla, they'll call her 'Oral!).

See also 'Do not give your child a name that has more than one spelling or a foreign name which isn't spelled phonetically in English, or they will face a lifetime of mispronunciation, exclusion, mockery and having their names mangled by GP receptionists.)

I wouldn't give it another thought, OP.

shakeitoffsis · 21/07/2023 15:23

Yes who gives a shit.

Whichwhatnow · 21/07/2023 15:26

I don't see an issue with MAN. Lots of people's names spell out random words or well known acronyms (mine does) but most are pretty inoffensive.

I did know a girl at school who had CUM (Charlotte Una something IIRC) which is one I would avoid!

Knittedfairies · 21/07/2023 15:26

I don't think the initials will ever be a problem; go with it.

Babytwodue · 21/07/2023 16:01

Thanks for all of your replies, my DH said exactly the same!

@Hannahsbananas yes it’s an actual name

Wouldn't bother me. Can't even think when initials would be used

RitzyMcFitzy · 21/07/2023 16:10

Of course.

RitzyMcFitzy · 21/07/2023 16:12

Just can't imagine it ever being an issue, unless she becomes one of those women with a fondness for monogrammed pillow cases!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 21/07/2023 16:12

I probably wouldn't, just add an extra middle name to break it up.

NoSquirrels · 21/07/2023 16:15

I’ve actually written this exact abbreviation for a woman’s name multiple times recently for a project I’m working on and it hasn’t occurred to me even once - until reading this! - that it’s a bit weird.

So I suspect most people will be just like me.

Toobusytoocare · 21/07/2023 16:20

I never even thought about my children's initials TBH!

Rainbowfruitpunch · 23/07/2023 22:47

I wouldn’t do it, is monogramming not a thing for others?
On the contrary I think good initials really lift a name. Something like MIN is sweet and you can call her Minnie sometimes!
