Welsh names

We're expecting our first baby in dec/jan
My partner is welsh and so were my grandparents and we are looking into welsh names
they really like dafyd, which is a good name in wales but I suspect may become daffy like the duck in england
welsh girls names seem easier somehow, more familiar/easy spelling and pronunciation, so any ideas for boy names?

It's the Welsh word for toy @SuePine69 .

I have a Steffan, would have been Alys if a girl.

There's nothing wrong with Welsh spelling or pronunciation, @GettingStuffed, it's phonetic!

Ieuan is pretty much impossible to get right unless you speak Welsh. It's nearer YEY-ann. You might hear Yigh-un (from non-speakers).
Ffion is FEE-onn, but might get spelt as Fionn or Fion.
Dafydd - RTFT. Smile

@sophieliz , I'm trying to imagine a very Welsh double-barrelled surname, ap Iorwerth-ap Rhydderch or something more like Morgan-Parry.Smile

Haha no, it's probably just really Welsh to me as I'm English. It's Allen-Jones so Violet is off our baby name list at VAJ as the initials just isn't right 😂😂

I thought Allen was english and Allan was scottish. It's not welsh.
Bowen seems a bit strange as a first name - it's a surname, son of Owen, like Owens. Rhydderch is nice, but probably wouldn't travel well.

Everyone I've spoken to has said Allen-Jones sounds like a very welsh last name. I also like the name Bowen due to its links to Owain Glyndwr but each to there own

I like Owen and Elis, and Steffan, but Steffan because I know two really nice Steffans. Arthur said the Welsh way is great.

I can't argue with you about what people say to you. Jones certainly sounds welsh, but it makes me think of Bridget Jones and Samantha Jones

You'd need to explain the link to Owain Glyndwr to me.

You can find where surnames are most popular using this link:

Allen seems to be most popular in the midlands and south of England and Northern Ireland, and Allan in Scotland.

Might be useful if you are planning on using a surname as a first name.
